Friendly staff but the adoption process almost makes it not worth it. You have to be quick enough to sign up for the waitlist right at 9am on their website. I did it two days straight for two different dogs and I was unsuccessful. Guessing I’m too slow for the process.

My sister in laws cat was taken to their shelter by $5 or Less Bookstore after he wandered into their store. The shelter released him right after he was dropped off back onto the street. They did not hold him for his owner to have a chance to pick him up. They dumped a housecat onto the street. The person responsible needs to be fired. This shelter needs to be held responsible for endangering animals. Now a happy healthy housecat with a family is lost and wandering the street.

The Ventura County animal service staff were amazing. They were all super friendly. You can tell how much they love their animals. The adoption process was simple and easy. This is my second time adopting from them. The first was from the Camarillo shelter and this one is from the Simi Valley location. Both places were clean and all the animals were well taken care of

The stars don't really work for the review I am writing here, the problem is the billing and citation center is in Newport Beach an the animal shelter is in Ventura. Only to complicate matters, MY animal shelter will always be Agoura An Shelter because it is right down the street. Ventura shelter is relatively far from me, I am right on the LA / Ventura Line. So, to get to the point, I have dealt with animal control over the summer, I had just gotten my cattle dog, and animal control came down. He was great, and although the situation was frustrating, he helped me through it. Some time later, maybe a couple months, I received two different licensing bills for my dog. I tried to get through to the right people, to find out which bill was correct, and I couldn't reach them. I guess they sent another, but in addition to work, I also go to SF and various other places to be with my folks and family. Today I received a bill for $130 for a dog license. Even today it was very frustrating to get through to the office!!! They must not hire enough people to handle it?

Spay & Neuter Clinic in Simi Valley. On Los Angeles Ave. Cost about $40. They also can do her shots while she is there. I have had one dog ,& one cat done there & they did a great job!
On occasions yes they do get in those breeds they have an app you can download and add the breeds you're interested in and the app will notify you when that breed of dog goes into the shelter. You can also go onto their website and look or walk around the kennels Tuesday through Sunday 1pm-6pm
Yes
Yes. You can fill out the volunteer application on the shelter website and attend an orientation in Camarillo. Once you have your volunteer login you may schedule to be trained in Simi by a senior volunteer.
Just take them to the shelter. They have a donation bin near the office. Give them a heads-up when you get there about the frozen food.
If you go on their site, search both shelters in Simi and Camarillo for lost/found pets. Also check Facebook for Simi Valley missing pets. My dogs got out of the yard from an unlocked gate and both times that was where they were listed.
There is a med center on site
Yes! VCAS has been no kill (92% live release rate) since 2014!
The shelter does have kittens come in to the shelter especially as it is kitten season right now. Some are old enough to stay at the shelter for adoption. Some are too young and go to foster. The website is updated every hour and shows all the available animals.
All of the dogs at the shelter at both the Camarillo and Simi Valley locations are on the website and app. If there are any animal you are interested in please go to the appropriate shelter with the animals "A" number or kennel number. Kennel numbers in the 900's are in Sim Valley. Everything else is in Camarillo.
Yes, at Simi Valley shelter location
If and animal comes in with no microchip/ tags/ owner information it is held four days, not including the day the animal came in before going up for public adoption. If the animal does have owner information it is held for 10 days before public adoption. However the owner can reclaim the animal after this period as long as the animal is still at the shelter.
Not to look at animals. Public and adoption hours are from 1 to 6PM at the Camarillo location. Simi valley location hours might be slightly different but still close at 6. Mondays are closed. You are however able to go until midnight (only at camarillo location) if you need to drop off a stray animal.
Yes. They are located near the back of the shelter in the barn.
Yes
They are "no kill" but save about 93% of what goes into their shelter. They do euthanize for severe behavioral reasons and severe medical reasons.
