Arrived as a "walk-in" around 11am and mentally prepared for a rough day at the DMV as expected especially if you don't have an appointment. Staff seemed to do what they can as best they could given the number of employees they have and having to take lunch shifts and manager was announced he had to leave on an errand and that it was going to be slow after 11am-2pm. Around almost 2pm, it seemed pretty empty; I was the only one inside. I would've left much sooner but there was unexpected paperwork that I and the employee didn't know I needed had I not walked in 🤷🏻♀️ but he let me get the docs and come back. They were all very polite and helpful! I'm definitely coming back with an appointment though and spare myself a back burn from waiting outside in the sun.

My experience this morning was as good as you could expect from a DMV. I had an appointment for 8:30 AM on a Tuesday to get a new license (moving from out of state). I arrived a few minutes early and was taken in right away. In between appointments, they brought people in from the walk-in line. At most, I saw ~10 people in line, but they were moving through people pretty quickly. So there were definitely times with no one in line. Make sure you know what docs you need and print them out! (No cell phone screenshots). I didn’t have proof of insurance so I waited around a bit for my provider to fax it in. If I hadn’t forgotten the insurance card, I would have been in and out in <30 minutes. Everyone seemed kind and professional - I got checked on multiple times while I was waiting for my insurance provider to answer the phone. The process was overall easy and painless. As of April 3, they ask Covid screening questions before letting you in and still have physical distancing in the waiting room. I believe masks are optional, but almost everyone I saw was wearing one.

It took months to get an appointment but I was finally able to get one for this morning. That was the only challenge I had. I appreciated that they actually pulled me to the front of the line for having an appointment scheduled. The employees were very kind, helpful, direct and patient. Ms. Moore in particular was SO incredibly sweet in assisting me today. She was personable and funny and made this experience a great one, the best dmv experience I’ve had. The process was smooth and even though they are very short staffed, I was in and out within an hour. East Durham DMV - y’all are wonderful. Thanks for all you do!

Went on a Tue afternoon to renew my drivers license. In and out in 15min. I did make an appointment ahead of time. Line was short and they accepted walk-ins (at least during the time when I was there. Still recommend getting an appointment.) Staff are very friendly.

Check Goldsboro DMV I think they are doing the road test there.
