I enjoyed Holden Beach both during the day and at night looking for shark teeth.

We drove down just to hunt for shells based on recent activity in the area and it did not disappoint! The pier is closed, there are only port-a-Johns for restrooms and no place to wash your feet. You also have to pay for parking, $3 and hour. I feel like if you have to pay for parking, you should at least not have sand in your car once you leave, but that’s just me!

Holden Beach is the best beach for shells! I use to go to Oak Island but I've changed my love to Holden!

The RV campground is no frills, but it has full hookups. The beach is just a short walk over the dunes. You can fish on the Pier. You can hear but not see the waves from your campsite. All in all a nice place.

Yes, you must enter the store to gain access to the pier. And the small restraunt has delicious made to order meals.
We are usually there at Thanksgiving and when the fish are not biting they will close early, call Cherry Grove they are probably the closest
Maybe a 30 minute drive depending on shallotte and beach traffic.
