This is a nice little getaway for a few hours. A Breathtaking view, very nice and friendly atmosphere while wine tasting. We enjoyed sampling the different types of peaches, and trying the famous apple cider donuts, bread pudding, and ice cream. If you would like to sample wine, you can sample flights as there were multiple flight options to choose from, ranging from dry to sweet. You can pick your own peaches, or purchase fresh peaches already picked at the stand. Prices were reasonable on all purchases we made, and overall it was just a great experience, a peaceful afternoon.

We're from Richmond and we've been listening to families raved about Carter Mt for eons. Hiking nearby, we decided to pay a visit for the first time (Nov 1). We were immediately impressed w the vineyards and the groves as we approached the top. And after we got to the barn/general store, we thought the views of Charlottesville from the picnic area were absolutely wonderful. Worth the trip itself! Instead of venturing out to the groves to pick apples, we indulged in a 1/2 doz hot apple donuts & a slice of apple pie ale mode. Tasting like delicate apple fritters, these donuts were absolutely to die for, especially w dabs of vanilla ice cream borrowed from the pie. I had three and could've gone for more. We're very glad we are now numbered among the faithful who made the pilgrimage to Carter Mt. ☺

Such a great place to visit!! A good helping of activities up there besides apple picking. They'll load you up on apple cider, donuts, wine, cider, and all kinds of other orchard inspired goodies if you let em!! Hayrides are available sometimes too. The views all around are immaculate! Highly recommend.

Great experience at Carter Mountain! We had a great time, the facilities are nice and the view is gorgeous. They are known for their apple cider donuts for good reason. The apples, of course, are excellent. Staff is friendly. Walking on the hill can be challenging at times, and my whole family's shoes got muddy, we will be prepared for that next time.

My child also has peanut and tree not allergies. Although, I do not know what kind of oil Carter Mountain uses, I can tell you we've eaten them twice, two years in a row, and haven't had an issue. They also have an ingredient list on site at the window where you order and on the packaged foods. However, I must add that our drs have informed us that even if a food is fried in peanut oil, the oil is so refined that the oil itself is unlikely to cause an allergic reaction.
Go to the website. It shows what's in season on a calendar.

You'll want to get up to carter before it gets too cold. In season or not, a sudden frost would hurt your chances of getting good apples.
Steep climb up. Narrow road up. I didn't notice any RVs either. They did have a small school bus that they used to transport people from the overflow parking lot. I don't recommend it if your RV is larger than that.
CMO has delicious apple's June 3 - November 4th this year. Most of my family and friends said the apples were the best they've had this year.
