Was trying to buy a used Chaparral boat from them, but they said it was "spoken for". I asked if that meant someone put a deposit down, and they said no and kind of acted clueless. The actual owner of the boat also had as ad on craigslist, and when I contacted him, he had no clue it was being held and said no money had been sent his way. Obviously, the Magnum owners were holding it for a friend or family member with special benefits I didn't qualify for, and I find that a bit unethical. Probably a fine place if you are in their clique.

This review is for the Mastercraft dealer only. Awful experience. I had to update my review because I can’t even get in touch with them now. I have been trying for a week and no one answers the phone or calls me back. We had them “detail” our boat and I took issue with the fact they didn’t do it, but charged me anyway. Then when I left a candid review of the service, the owner decided to call me to berate me about leaving a candid review and then responds to my written review professionally when others are able to see. This dealership is extremely unprofessional and I absolutely would not trust them with my boat ever again.

John was knowledge and helpful when demoing the boat. Everyone we spoke with was polite and friendly. Good experience.

I feel bad only giving 3 stars because Tim was about the nicest person I have ever met. There was absolutely no issue at all with him, but the pontoon boat we had is best described as "trashed." This boat came complete with faded paint, sun burned seats, dents, non working radio, captain seat held in place by duct tape, exposed sharp metal that popped our tube (luckily no injury to me or family), railing braces were not attached, side metal plates that run the length of the boat were barely attached (one of them was completely gone exposing the rotting wood and wiring underneath), spiderwebs, ants, storage areas where the doors don't close, etc... There was also no ladder to get back onto the boat after tubing. After our tube got a hole, I returned and Tim patched it up and had one of his workers attach a ladder to the boat and we were back up and running again. I chose Magnum because it was the closest to our rental home, and it also happened to be the least expensive by about $20/day. I saw other pontoons for rent there and they were in much better shape. Maybe I just had bad luck and this was the only one left. It would be ok if this one were advertised as a beat up, dented, ugly, faded pontoon rental and priced accordingly, but to charge full price was just too much. I would be embarrassed to give that boat to a paying customer. Maybe some of my opinion is being from a bigger city where expectations are higher. In the end, the boat did it's job for 2 days and went forward just fine (reverse only worked at barely above idle speed). We will always have a good laugh thinking about that boat. When I return to SML, I will rent from Tim at Magnum again, but I will ask questions and make 100% sure I don't get that boat again.

We do not have a launch at the marina at 2031 Morewood Road Hardy, VA. It's entirely too crowded there. We do have a launch at 16700 Moneta Road, Moneta, VA 24121. It's 20 per launch. I'm not sure where your rental is, but perhaps this information is helpful.
