Good place to pray. Parking lot across the street. The neighborhood a quarter mile south of UC Berkeley is safe and the weather is very good in Berkeley. This parish is managed by Paulists, an order of priests I see as verging into heterodoxy and prone to modernism. The priests here are well educated and kind. The facilities are nice. They offer many good activities to parishioners and students.

I told Fr. Steven Bell I was interested in being received into the Catholic Church. I wrote him four emails and he did not answer. I called the pastor, Fr. Ivan Tou, and he did not answer either.

Newman gradually became my go-to place of worship during my several years as a Berkeley undergraduate after trying out other conservative Protestant churches and their student ministries beforehand. Turns out, Newman Hall -- although not perfect -- had something else I was looking for all along: priests and fellow students who genuinely cared about and put me first, rather than my disability or sexual orientation. Special thanks to Fr. Ivan, Paul and Steve for their continued emotional and spiritual support and understanding! God bless! <3

My spiritual home! Vibrant Catholic community of all shades R. C. Because it's near UC Berkeley it has a more international set of parishioners and many of them are at the GTU or the colleges run by the Jesuits, Dominicans & other Catholic orders. Lots of social activists & social activities. Run by the Paulists, an American-founded community of Catholic priests, a Parish council and lots of volunteers.

There is a small lot across Dwight Way, but it fills rapidly. Alternatives are street parking (It *is* a Sunday) or one block north in university parking, but there is a small charge.
