My mom entered Gables a few months before the Pandemic and their staff was and continues to be amazing. Patiently answering all my mom's queries from internet issues to hanging pictures on her wall- they help with everything. My mom acclimated, and is fully engaged with all the social events and sometimes she doesn't have time for our visits! In the pandemic they did an excellent job of keeping residents safe and their hopes up for a better day which is now here! Thank goodness she had these caring group of folks to support her through a very difficult year. Thank you Kristen in particular and all the staff.

My mother has been a resident of The Gables at Winchester for two and a half years. I feel it is important to say how thankful we are for the staff, especially during this time with Covid Virus. We want to express our sincere appreciation to ALL the staff for what they have done to make The Gables a safe, healthy and caring home for our mother and all the residents, during these uncharted times. It is amazing to continually watch how the staff is working so diligently, to maintain a healthy community for all. It has not been an easy job and they all seem to do it with a smile!!!! I've witnessed many acts of kindness, such as Alexis making masks for all the residents, Kristen staying outside in the heat, so she can keep help the residents and guests maintain their 6 feet apart and keep their masks on, Debbie and the activity staff bringing water, ice cream and treats to residents outside, staff bringing supplies up to resident apartments that have been delivered, and staff walking in and out from their shifts happily taking time to talk to the residents and guests. I know there are many more "over and above" acts of kindness going on inside the building, but we have not been permitted inside, just yet......safety first!!!!! Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for all you do.......YOU ARE ALL HEROS!!!!!!!!!!

My Father and Mother in law both live at The Gables! They have been there for the past few years. It is a fantastic place! The staff take great care of them, always addressing them by their names. Charlene, the director, is very assessable and helpful! Cindy, the Head Nurse, is fantastic with my father! He adores her! Rita, at the front desk, is always helpful for when I need someone to check on my father or his tv remote!! It has a great family atmosphere and I would highly recommend it for anyone looking for a place for their loved ones.

My mother moved to the Gables approximately 1 year ago. The facility is amazing.  The staff members are warm, friendly, engaging, caring, and FUN. I know mom feels that the hospitality and service are excellent and the people working at the residence truly care about her. The entertainment is abundant - from a saxophone player to a Broadway baritone to glamour shots - there is always something fun going on at the Gables or out in the community.  The on-staff activities people make an effort to reach out which is so important. The on-site physical therapy staff make what could seem like work - a good time. This is such an important activity for mom and they make her want to do it. Having them right there makes life so much easier for mom (as does having the beauty salon on site). Also having people come weekly to change the linens and clean is such a blessing for seniors. Overall the facility is beautifully kept, light, bright, and clean. The atmosphere at the Gables is stimulating, uplifting, and enjoyable.  Some residents needed more assistance than mom.  It was reassuring to me to see that kind of assistance is available should the need arise. The morning wellbeing checks are very assuring to our family - knowing that each day a staff member calls or visits to confirm the residents are all set. Aides and nursing staff seemed very helpful and professional. I am so comfortable knowing mom is in such a wonderful place with a staff that truly seems to care about her wellbeing and happiness. Questions & Answers

When I visit assisted living communities with my daughter, I find it all a little intimidating. Moving from a small house to a big community is frightening. I just don’t know if I can learn my way around a new place.

My father needs more help than we can provide for him to be safe at home. I think he realizes it but is reluctant to leave the friends he’s made in his neighborhood. Dad has lived there for about 25 years. What can we do to reassure him he can stay connec

Good question! Embarking on a new chapter in life doesn’t mean old friends have to be left behind. Assisted living communities offer a wide range of programs and events residents can invite guests to participate in. And they also offer transportation services so your dad can attend events in and around town with his old buddies. Fortunately, there are other ways your father can stay in touch. Social media channels like Facebook or a video chat service such as Skype are two easy avenues for staying connected.

My mom agreed that it was time for her to move to an assisted living community this winter. She knows she just isn’t safe living alone any longer. We found a community Mom seemed to love. Now we can’t seem to get her motivated to actually make the move. I

This sometimes happen when it actually comes time to make the move. Your mom is probably anxious and a little uncertain. A late life transition like this isn’t easy to make. What might help is to get her involved in some of the events and activities at the new community now, instead of waiting until she actually moves in. Talk with the staff to see about helping her find a buddy with similar interests and hobbies that she can bond with during her visits. Becoming more familiar with the community and with a few fellow residents can help make the move feel a little less intimidating.

My children live out of town and have busy lives. I know I need to move to a senior living community but I don’t want to burden my children with downsizing my house. What can I do? It’s overwhelming to think about doing it all on my own.

We hear this concern from seniors often. Sorting through and packing up a lifetime of memories and belongings can be overwhelming. One resource we like to share with families is a group of professionals called Senior Move Managers. They are experts at handling all of the details of a later life move. You can find one near your home by visiting the National Association of Senior Move Managers or Certified Relocation & Transition Specialist.
