Super nice and helpful staff. Good, competitive prices. Highly recommend. They run it out of a garage in a neighborhood right now, so don't think you're in the wrong spot when you drive by!

Excellent shop and top-notch expertise. Have called Gary and had great conversations about the Salem/Oregon areas, detectors and prospecting. Visited a couple of times seeking newer detecting advice (it's been a few years since I've done any hard-core detector swinging and still own an older DFX) and, both, Gary and his wife, Christina, have always been a pleasure conversing with. Extremely knowledgeable and always welcoming. While I miss Lynn Von Blumensteins Treasure Hunting shop on Lancaster (he passed away many years ago) and Elmer's Detector Sales of West Salem (also passed away many years ago), Capitol Prospecting is just as real and down-to-earth welcoming as those other favorite shops of mine, and a fantastic place to do business with.

Great customer service! Very friendly owners who have a lot of knowledge about treasure hunting. Purchased my new MX Sport there and had a very smooth transaction. Also, they have a great collection of their own personal finds that they are willing to let you look at. Highly recommend!!! A+++

If you live in Salem and need metal detector shop here. Great family-run business, excellent selection and the best service in town. They carry White's metal detectors and Garrett metal detectors and a wide range of prospecting gear. Very reasonably priced

Questions & Answers

I want to go gold panning with my Dad. We may not like it; it might catch on. Where is a good place to start? 9/17/2018

The best thing to do would be to call Gary at 503-269-8640, he can answer your questions and has equipment for sale if you don't already have it. He's also got back issues of gold mining magazines. I started with a simple gold pan and hand trowel, it's fun!

What places is good to go for gold pann in ng I would like to to take my family

North Fork of the santiam, quartzville, outside of sweet home. And further south the umpqua river.
