Great place, we weren't sure how it worked but you just walk up and be safe please. 100 yards on one side and shotgun on the right. I was told they do not want you bringing your own targets, but there are targets set up usually so you'll be good. Please please be safe and use any safety precautions at your disposal. Also it's outdoors so you can basically shoot any rifle you'd like.

Been here a bunch of times, and never had a bad experience with locals. If you go to this range, please remember gun safety, and always have safety glasses and/or noise cancelling headphones/ear plugs with you.

Awesome Public Range! Just bring your own Targets & Stands to be sure to have the best experience. They are closed Wednesdays until 2pm to clean the range.

Not a bad range, if you are here at the right time. I am sitting here now about to leave. It's a Monday. 4pm. Fairly busy but lanes are available. Everyone agrees on when to go cold/hot. There is a modicum of safety. You may want to bring the following: 2x4's, targets, tape, staples etc. Make sure you have your own eye & ear protection as there is no retail here. All in all a decent range that is free to use. Just keep your head on a swivel as it may not be as safe when busy and inexperienced or unsafe shooters are here.

Website now says closed wednesdays for clean up and repair.
You do not need to present ID to use the range, however it's always a good idea to have ID on your person when in public.
Open carry is legal in Florida while participating in or going to or from fishing, hunting and camping, or participating in or going to or from gun shows and gun ranges.
Usually close for part of the day on Wednesday for maintenance, but I think they did it yesterday because of the 4th
All lanes are open now.
The only places I've seen where black powder is prohibited is at an indoor range due to the confined space and fire hazard.
Yes, there is also dedicated clay throw area for shotguns, mostly people leave their thrower there too so sometimes all you need is some clay.
Their is a park manager their & they are strick with the rules are posted on the website
You have to have your own gun
When i went about a year ago they didn't let me even though its a dedicated slug gun
No, it is a target range, slow fire only. Not a tactical range!
Yes. Two vault toilets
To my knowledge, I believe so
No. The website or posted rules/regs picture shows all the rules, including paper targets only (BYO target and stapler/tape) on the handgun/rifle lanes. There is a single shotgun/skeet station/area to the side where you can shoot clay.
About 100 yards or little over
Google Maps should work since it is listed here. The USD Forest Service website lists the following directions: "The Ocala Shooting Range is located 0.7 mile north of SR 40 along FR 11 (old FR 88), west of Juniper Springs and east of Mill Dam."
If you go on the website, on the top left it will say "area status" if it says open then its open, and the hours are literally from sunrise to sunset
Yes it is open today, but if your today is a different day, then look here at the top Area Status will show either Open or Closed: https://www.fs.usda.gov/recarea/ocala/recarea/?recid=40236
Isn't there someone's back yard you can use for your cross bow.
Their calendar does say Closed. Usually only closed Wednesdays until 2pm for cleaning of the range. Someone has to open and close the gate at sun up and sun down.
I have not encountered classes out here. This is a come as you are. If it is your first time shooting, or if you are trying to get a CCP, I would not suggest this range.
You can use any large lawn or field to sight in a bow...
It should be back open I dont see why not!!!
Pistol/Rifle area with separate clay shooting area.
Open range, regular gun rules apply
Cool Ive been meaning to check this place out. I live 2 hours away though
Free. I usually go early in the morning and there's no wait. I think it's closed on Wednesdays for clean up.
The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission website said it's closed from 4/22 to 4/29 for lead reclamation and repairs.
It reopens around 2. They clean it up earlier in the day.
If you mean target's, yes. Tacks or staple gun would help to.
Gun, Ammo, Respect for rules and firearms. These are the only requirements
Yes
Not supposed to. Only allowed paper targets to pit on their stands
No, you can not.
No you put your firearm down when you change targets. When it cold put on the table and reload.
Of course you have to wait you can't go out there on a hot line safety first
I believe it is. We were just there on Sunday and there weren't any signs stating that they were closed
I believe so. Weds is the only day that closes early for weekly cleanup, as far as i know
I believe so. Was just there yesterday, and there weren't any special signs up about it.
They have a shotgun area, but you have to bring your own clays and throwers
Yes nobody is there to check who you are
Sunrise to sunset
People bring all kinds of targets to shoot. No one is out there to tell you no. You might get some “range police” usually some old disgruntled nut, but just tell em off. You’re an American. Shall not be infringed!
Hope they are, because we are going that way ourselves. Believe it will be
100 yards & no metal targets.
No. It's public place where u bring your own targets and firearms The put targets up Wed morning but they do not last long
It's starting to get pretty crowded it might not be worth going there for sure at peak times
What kind of idiot would commit robberies/ thefts at a gun range? Some people have to make these things up to satisfy their negative demeanor, push their "progressive agenda" or they're out of touch with reality - wait, that's the same as supporting the "progressive agenda". This is a great place to sharpen one's skills, to effectively dispatch the scum who actually commit crimes and prey on those who are unable or afraid to defend themselves.
Single and dual metal spinners I've seen but I've never seen a tree out there. Bring it just in case. Then when you get there ask around to see of everyone is cool with it. I don't think anyone will really care as long as it doesn't harm anyone or interfere with their practice.
Paper targets only on the rifle/ pistol range, clays only on the shotgun range.
Yes it is, but the parking lot is sand and gravel. There is handicap parking, so you wont have to travel through much.
It's free to shoot, sun up to sun down, just know your gun safety. The ranger may come by from time to time just to check on things.
