My mother used CARES to have them clean her home twice a year for years and she was very pleased. We were told she qualified for monthly cleaning services, so someone came to clean January 2022 for the first time and it was just okay. But hey, it didn’t cost anything. When my mother called to request a cleaning the end of March 2022, our CARES experience became a nightmare. CARES homemaker Cynthia Harris came to my mom’s home on March 31, 2022. She spent less than an hour cleaning. The next morning, I went to the bathroom cabinet to retrieve my mother’s pain medications, and a month’s supply of OxyContin was missing! I called CARES to report the theft. They said I had to file a police report. I went to the police station and I was told I could not file a police report without an affidavit from my mother’s pain management doctor. I went to my mother’s doctor and he refused to sign the affadvit. The upshot? I can’t file a police report against CARES employee Cynthia Harris for stealing a month’s worth of OxyContin out of my mother’s home! Her doctor cannot renew her prescription of OxyContin for a month, per Florida state law. She is taking withdrawal medications now and is suffering greatly. We may have to hospitalize her due to withdrawal side effects. The upshot? We will never use CARES again. They do not vet their employees properly and are hiring thieves.

I worked for CARES for 10 years. It is a wonderful non-profit that gives much to the community. Most people who work there understand that as a non-profit they are part of something bigger than themselves. It is hard work an the pay isn't top dollar, but the smiles of gratitude and the occasional plate of cookies from those we help goes far. I have seen countless seniors receive relief over the summer months with the work of CARES and donations from the community. I have seen people receive much needed healthcare at the clinic and lives saved because of CARES. I have seen families staying in their home and together thanks to the assistance CARES provides. It is a wonderful agency that sometimes experiences growing pains, but lessons are always taken away as they work to improve their services daily. Please do not consider reviews from obviously disgruntled former employees, I am sure there is a reason their services were no longer needed or wanted.

CARES has been a compassionate and caring place. Despite some difficulties in each department; issues were resolved in a professional manner. Working at CARES is a joy and the services they provide for seniors is phenomenal. Yes there are things they need to work on , but I believe in time it can get better; hence , as you give your feedback , dedication to serving and financial support to this organization.

Good place for seniors for daycare and active activities. Human Resources and employment services do not know how to manage the department. When you applying for a job they never call you back. The volunteer services is horrible they make you think you will be a companionship for the elder in reality they just want you to clean. The locations they send you to for helping seniors are very unsafe and unsanitary. It is located in great community. Lots of things to do for seniors.
