I like the location of the apartments, however, the management is HORRIBLE and IRRESPONSIBLE. Like other reviews have said, packages are stolen all the time, even when you sign up for one of the lockers, a number of packages will still be placed outside next to the mail boxes. The management is SLOW in resolving the residents' issues. If your apartment is missing anything such as blinds or lights, be prepared to live without them during your time there.

I had such a great experience at the Hillside Village Apartments. I felt right at home when visiting the leasing office. The Business Manager Mrs. Tekie was wonderful enough to give me a tour and answered all of my questions about the neighborhood. She gave me a tour of the apartment and I absolutely fell in love with the space it looked very presentable and clean. Mrs. Tekie was very responsive throughout the whole process and provided me with great customer service.

Would absolutely not recommend living here, especially if you are a student renter. I lived here for two years and never felt like I was treated with respect as a tenant. The management was constantly changing staff and from my experience, was not equipped or properly trained to work with the volume of people living in the complex or the problems within the building. At one point we had a person living across from us who would scream as if someone were murdering them at random hours in the night (this would happen at least once a week) and the leasing office did nothing about it. We tried to break our lease because we felt unsafe in our living situation, but were denied the request from the office. Our toilets were constantly breaking down and packages stolen from the "secured" building. Please, please--if you are a student who is desperate for housing in Berkeley's crazy market, let this be your last option,

Horrible, horrible management. Please do yourself a favor and look elsewhere for apartments.The place may seem nice from the exterior, but the washer and dryer are incredibly cheap as well as everything in the apartments (cabinets, plumbing, etc). In addition, the acoustics of the apartment are so poor that you can hear people walk in the rooms above you (do not even think about playing music here). The staff is never in their office, and will throw in random fees into your rent and threaten to call their lawyers in L.A and kick you out if you don't pay them. I cannot even begin to tell you the amount of trouble and relentless harassment I have gone through with Hillside (especially the manager Nikki). I know countless other people who have lived here and had the same exact experience, but don't just take my word on it, look at the other yelp reviews. This place is ridiculously expensive, harassing, and poorly run by incompetent employees.
