I'm writing this review for High Speed Rooter about clogged drain cleaning. I'm a customer of the business and was very happy with their work, customer service and overall experience from start to finish! I must say that it was amazing how quick and efficient they were at getting our drains cleared. They even offered us tips on how to prevent future drain issues which we followed up and didn't have any further problems! We'll be using them again for sure!!

It was a pleasure to work with High Speed Rooter, from the office staff to the techs on the job site. The technician who provided us the emergency drain service is knowledgeable, friendly and did an excellent job of explaining the problem. The staff was quick to respond, scheduled the appointment when most convenient for me, arrived on time and finished timely. In addition, they cleaned up behind them and left my home as if nothing had ever happened! Great company. Will definitely use again for any drainage issues!

Questions & Answers

Will the pressure from hydro jetting damage my drains?

Makayla Lee Moore | Nov 29, 2021
Annabelle Thompson Campbell | Nov 29, 2021

It’s very unlikely that hydro jetting will damage your drains. Most homes now have plastic pipes, which are quite sturdy and won’t be damaged by a hydro jet. If an older home has cast iron pipes that are already quite corroded, it is possible that hydro jetting could exacerbate the existing damage. A normal pipe will withstand hydro jetting with no trouble at all.

How Often Should Hydro Jetting Be Done?

Jasmine Lopez Moore | Nov 29, 2021
Annabelle Thompson Campbell | Nov 29, 2021

As Soon as You Notice Drain/Sewer Issues If you have not yet had pipe jetting done, it is something to consider if you are already noticing drain or sewer issues. Warning signs suggesting it is time to call us and see if hydro jetting is the right cleaning method for your situation include: Unusually slow drains Strong drain/sewer odors Recurring clogs

Why Choose Hydro Jetting?

Sydney Walker Harris | Nov 29, 2021
Annabelle Thompson Campbell | Nov 29, 2021

Choosing Hydro jetting means that you are picking the most effective solution for clearing out clogged drains. There are different sizes of hydro jets that can be used. A skilled professional will be able to determine which size will work the best for you. This pipe cleaning method is also able to penetrate deeper into built up debris, flush out rocks, roots, minerals, and any other obstruction that can clog up your pipes. It is also a very convenient option, due to the fact that it has a higher ability to clear out major clogs.

What Happens When the Septic Tank Is Pumped?

Eden Wilson Miller | Aug 26, 2021
Davis Jackson Lopez | Aug 26, 2021

Over time, sludge will build up in the bottom of the tank. Even though bacteria does help control the amount of sludge in the bottom of the tank, this bacteria cannot break down sludge fast enough to completely eliminate sludge and keep the tank clean. When the tank is pumped, the sludge is removed and the tank is emptied.

What Are the Consequences of Not Pumping Your Tank?

Brycen Turner Phillips | Aug 26, 2021
Davis Jackson Lopez | Aug 26, 2021

If the tank is not pumped, the solids will build up in the tank and the holding capacity of the tank will be diminished. Eventually, the solids will reach the pipe that feeds into the drain field, causing a clog. When the drain field pipe becomes clogged, homeowners may see a variety of symptoms including: \ Smell of sewage in the yard Swampy areas over the drain field Bright green, healthy grass over the drain field Waste water backing up into the house. Lowest drains in the house become slower It doesn't take long for these problems to become critical. Most homeowners find that the only way to solve this problem is to call in a professional.

How Often Should You Pump Your Tank?

anotinia miguelton | Aug 26, 2021
Davis Jackson Lopez | Aug 26, 2021

Most homeowners need to pump their septic tank every 3-5 years depending on the size of the tank and the amount of wastewater produced by the household. It's very important for the septic tank to be sized properly for the number of people living on the property. A 1,000-gallon tank should be adequate for a home with 1-3 bedrooms. The same house with a 750-gallon tank may produce too much waste water for the size of the tank. In this case, the tank would require frequent pumping.

Can Heavy Rain Affect Septic Systems?

Jana gilabert | Aug 26, 2021
Davis Jackson Lopez | Aug 26, 2021

Spring showers bring flowers, but they also bring septic system problems. Has your septic tank alarm ever gone off after a heavy rainstorm? Has heavy rainfall caused your sinks and toilets to back up? It is important to learn about how downpours can impact your septic system and what you can do to prepare for the upcoming rainy season and prevent problems before they arise.

Why Does My Septic Tank Fill Up When It Rains?

Moussa Gonzales | Aug 26, 2021
Davis Jackson Lopez | Aug 26, 2021

Most rain-related issues involve your septic system's drainfield, which is the only component exposed to the elements. Heavy rainstorms can potentially cause many septic system-related problems, including ground flooding and clogged drainfields.

HOW DOES A SEPTIC SYSTEM WORK?

Ander Jordan | Aug 26, 2021
Davis Jackson Lopez | Aug 26, 2021

A pipe collects all the home's wastewater and transfers it to an underground, watertight septic tank. Here, solids (known as "sludge") settle to the bottom, and floatable materials (known as "scum") float to the top, says the EPA. Both are contained by the tank and are periodically pumped out by a professional. The middle layer contains liquid wastewater (known as "effluent") that exits the tank into a buried drainfield in the yard, where the wastewater disperses into the soil, adds the EPA. The soil filters out contaminants and beneficial bacteria break down any organic materials.

IS THE SEPTIC SYSTEM RELATED TO THE DRINKING WATER SYSTEM?

Avery grey | Aug 26, 2021
Davis Jackson Lopez | Aug 26, 2021

No. Many homes with septic systems also have a private well. But, the septic system is entirely independent from the well. Its purpose is not to treat wastewater so it can become drinkable, but to safely disperse it in a way that prevents contamination.

HOW OFTEN SHOULD YOU GET YOUR SEPTIC TANK EMPTIED?

James Hills | Aug 26, 2021
Davis Jackson Lopez | Aug 26, 2021

Pumping of the septic tank by a professional is required to remove the sludge and scum. The frequency is determined by the tank size and the level of home activity (how much wastewater is generated). Most septic tanks should be pumped every three to five years, says the EPA. But, some systems may need to be pumped more often — annually if needed.

It’s easy to see that without a functioning sump pump, flooding can quickly occur. It’s also important to consider how loss of electricity can affect your sump pump. An electric sump pump will not function without electricity, which can easily happen during a thunderstorm or winter storm (which are two times when the sump pump is most needed.) Smart homeowners make sure to get a sump pump with battery-powered or generator-powered back-up capability. Having a functioning sump pump can help you prevent basement flooding, and that is definitely the ideal. However, as with all the best laid plans, sump pumps can malfunction or just fail to keep up with extensive water inflow.

Measure the depth of the rainwater in inches and multiply by 60 to find the total number of gallons that builds up. Multiply that number by 1.5 for a bit of wiggle room. If it’s more than 35 gallons per minute, get a three-quarter-horsepower unit. Otherwise, one-third- to one-half-horsepower models will work.

WHO DO I CALL TO REPAIR A DISPOSAL?

Lynn TREVOR | Aug 26, 2021
Willi Stobbs | Aug 26, 2021

A plumber will be your best bet for repairing a garbage disposal. However, depending on what the problem is, you may be able to repair it yourself. Before you call and hire someone, try to troubleshoot the problems and determine if you can fix it on your own. For example, a clogged disposal is an easy fix for homeowners to do on their own. But, if the disposal is leaking, then you should turn off the water and call a a plumber.

HOW DO YOU INSTALL A GARBAGE DISPOSAL?

Emerson Giovanni | Aug 26, 2021
Willi Stobbs | Aug 26, 2021

While there are some general commonalities that are helpful to know, there are no specific set of installation instructions that work for every garbage disposal. It is always recommended that you refer to and follow the owner’s manual that came with your disposal for precise installation instructions. REPLACE: The installation process for replacing a garbage disposal is a somewhat complicated project for the average homeowner. If you’re relatively handy, you will likely have no trouble doing it on your own. However, if you are not confident in your plumbing skills, it would be best to hire somebody. NEW INSTALL: If you are adding a disposal as part of a kitchen remodel, the installation process is going to be significantly more difficult than a simple replacement. Still not impossible for your average DIY homeowner, but you’ll now have to consider the cost of wiring and other possible electrical needs. It may be wise to hire somebody.

DO YOU NEED TO RUN WATER WHEN USING A GARBAGE DISPOSAL?

Ella TAYLOR | Aug 26, 2021
Willi Stobbs | Aug 26, 2021

Yes. It is recommended that you run the water while you operate the disposal. This will not only help the device grind your food waste, but also guide the small particles down the drain and prevent potential problems, such as a clog in your pipes or within the disposal. COLD WATER: When you are grinding food waste, you should always use cold water. This will prevent the fats within your food from liquefying, which may create a clog when the temperature cools and these fats once again solidify. By running cold water, you keep these fats in a “solid” state, which makes it easier to grind and eliminate. HOT WATER: When you are cleaning your disposal, you can use hot water. However, this is dependent on how you are cleaning it. If you are using cleaners, such as vinegar, baking soda or citric acid, hot water will be fine, perhaps even helpful. However, if you are grinding food — such as citrus peels — to help clean the disposal, then you should stick with cold water.

WHY DOES MY DISPOSAL SMELL?

Lizeth Kimble | Aug 26, 2021
Willi Stobbs | Aug 26, 2021

To eliminate these odors, you should run plenty of cold water into the unit and turn it on. Allow it to fully grind and flush all items inside the chamber. Next, you should thoroughly clean your disposal to eliminate all bacteria that may be lingering and contributing to the odor.

Cambell Schultz | Aug 26, 2021

To find the right size disposal for your home, you should first consider how much power you will need. This can be determined by considering a few factors. How many people live in your home? How often will you be using the disposal? What kind of food do you currently prepare, and how much waste does it create?

How Much Does It Cost to Install a Garbage Disposal?

Crandall Barham | Aug 26, 2021
Willi Stobbs | Aug 26, 2021

Garbage disposals are a convenient way to dispose of food waste. Rather than putting the waste into the garbage, where it could potentially end up in a landfill, garbage disposals grind the waste into tiny particles that can be flushed to the septic tank or sewer. The garbage disposal is installed below your sink, catching waste before it flows into the pipes. They can work manually or by the push of a switch. Most are completely unobtrusive, so you will not know they are installed from looking at your sink.

How much does it cost to install a new garbage disposal?

Leal Carr | Aug 26, 2021
Willi Stobbs | Aug 26, 2021
