I agree with Kitty's review. The staff never answers their phone and does not follow up with phone calls. I did get to see Dr. Dobecki after screaming at the receptionist that I had called 3 times and was not getting anywhere. (Hence the 2 stars instead of 1) He is very personable and seemed caring. Now I have to deal with Nancy not calling me back to schedule the procedure he recommended. I wonder if the doctor knows what poor service his staff gives. I'll tell him if I ever get to see him again.

Dr.Dobecki is a fantastic doctor. Not only does he take the time to listen to his patients and truly work with them to alleviate their pain management issues, he also sympathizes with each and every patient in a way most doctors failed to do. His attention and care is how doctors were meant to help their patients. I would give him the highest recommendations.

I LOVE Dr. Douglas Dobecki's San Diego Pain Institute. I went to see him for help with my lifelong Severe Fibromyalgia as well as two small 12/7 left kneecap fractures—an injury which stopped improving in March and started to feel much worse. a) For my Fibromyalgia, Dr. Dobecki immediately put me on a medication I’ve never tired. Within a week, this med. moved my Fibro. "8" pain to a "6." Two weeks after my initial appointment with the institute, I saw his NP, Larisa, and she upped my dosage of this med. I’m looking forward to even more pain relief. b) For my Knee Pain, I called Victoria, Dr. Dobecki’s nurse, near tears. The practice knows I’m not interested in any pain pills, but what else could be done? She contacted Dr. Dobecki and suggested he prescribe me a Medrol pack It worked; my Knee Pain went down from an "11" to a “9.” c) Dr. Dobecki requested that I get an MRI on my knee. Victoria arranged for authorization from my insurance within 2 days, and I had the MRI the next day. This MRI showed a small tear in my medial meniscus and some tendinitis. Yay! A true diagnosis! d) Dr. Dobecki also set up Physical Therapy to strengthen my upper leg. I start next week. d) Then, yesterday, Dr. Dobecki injected a steroid directly into the tissue next to my kneecap. OhMYGawd. The pain relief was almost instantaneous and wonderfully remarkable. I did not know how much pain I had been in until it numbed. I came home, went to bed, floated on pain-free relief, and sleep for 12 hours! I feel like this practice (from its appointment line, to it front office staff, to the nursing staff, to the Nurse Practitioner, to Dr. Dobecki are a real cut above. I HIGHLY recommend this practice! Please don’t suffer any more like I did—thinking nothing can help you after 30 years of pain. Try and new doctor, be proactive with your pain, and get the help you deserve.

I have to agree with Daniel in a post below. I was referred to this office for a procedure, that was 3 MONTHS AGO! The person who handles referrals and procedure scheduling, is never at her desk, and you always get her voicemail, and if you are lucky she might call you back but not within 24 hour. I kept being told, after calling repeatedly, someone will eventually call you back., i kept being told they were waiting on the referring doctor office to send then a second paper, and they would call me, when it came, weeks would go by and I finally call them back to be told the same thing every time! I'm in horrible pain, and that isn't their priority. I'm sure Dr. Dobecki is a great doctor i have heard good things about him, but first, to see him you must get through his staff first, GOOD LUCK WITH THAT! Finally today I called the referring orthopedic doctor (and it turned out they had not failed to send any such paper) I had the referring doctor's office refer me to a different doctor, because I'm tired of laying here in pain, waiting on this office to do their job and get my procedure scheduled!! 3 months!!! I have been waiting 3 months!! and I have been the one who has to keep calling this doctor's office back, because the girl whose job it is to do this, will never call you back unless you relentlessly, call them over an over and over...My suggestion, go ahead and arrange to see a different doctor that does these procedures, save yourself a lot od extra time in pain and just go somewhere else

Yes he does Pain management.

can this doctor prescribe pain medications?

Yes. But schedule 2 narcotics or opioids require a visit. None are given without an office visit and no after-hours or weekend prescriptions are given. You must also sign an agreement/contract that says you agree and understand this. You also agree to random and/or monthly urine drug tests, monthly office visits, not ask for more medication should you run out early (without a documented eligible reason), not share or receive or trade medicine, not abuse, misuse, or not take your medicine as directed, and agree to other things that i cannot recall off the top of my head.
