A hilly terrain including the Santa Monica Mountains, as well as the Santa Susanna Mountains. Lots to explore, for example “Nike Missile Site.” Lots of wildlife and a horse stable on Browns Canyon Rd. There are many hiking and biking paths.

This lark is wonderful because you can drive for 15 minutes and be completely away from anything that resembles city or metropolis. Amazing place. Paring is abundant as well!

Well sign-posted off the 118 Fwy but then you find yourself with 'private road' and 'access to residents only' signs, but keep on going until you get to the official parking areas (there are two:15954 Browns Canyon Rd Parking & 15984 Browns Canyon Rd Parking. It's pay parking, $5 and you need the exact money to put in the envelope). Be sure to bring a map with you; your cell phone's GPS is helpful but won't provide as much information as a map.

Best time to hike these trails is in spring after it rains when the grass is green and moist, the air is foggy and fresh, and the path ascends nearly two thousand feet past old abandoned missile silos and wild life rarely seen at once in the LA area ... deer, wild horses, longhorn sheep, snakes, bobcats ... leading to spectacular mountain peaks overlooking the entire San Fernando Valley all the way to the ocean!

Why is the park only for hikers? Reason? I am an outdoor photographer & drive a Jeep. The upper rd. has a destroyed Nike site. Purpose for closing area? Or Why? Also see 90% never pay the fee! Hikers seen average 20-40 in age!
