Questions & Answers

How far out is the salt ?dumped

Daniel Marler | Aug 26, 2019

Brine water is thoroughly mixed with lagoon water and diluted to approximate ambient ocean salinity (see mixing pond just east of Hiway 101 across the street from Warm Water jetties) and exits the end of the warm water jetties. All done in accordance with extensive environmental regulations and approved by Regional Water Quality Control Board.

what happens to the waste water and is the ocean salinity checked after brine is dumped back in. is it safe for aquatic life

See above answer to 'salt dumping'. Monitoring of water quality at desal plant outfall is continuous 24/7/365. Environmental Impact Report found outfall brine effects benign.

I want to bring my class to the plant. How can I plan a field trip and how much does it cost for each student?

Contact "Poseidon Water". They are the owners/builder of the facility. It is a very high security facility and tours require plenty of upfront planning

Smartest thing ever done in California it's about time need 2-3 more plants one in Los Angeles...and one more way up almost top North...maybe 200 before end of state

Count up how many millions of gallons of brine water will be dumped in the oceans in the long-term. I give the Carlsbad Plant 20 years before they figure out they're causing dead zones in the ocean and it would of been cheaper to conserve potable water and just treat wastewater.

is nrg printed at the front gate? How do I enter the plant grounds????

Very carefully after searched and your vehicle is searched...better not go.. keep the water safe
