I took my grandson on a hike recently to Mushroom Rock and we left from Shackleford Ridge Park parking lot. The trailhead was not marked very well but once on the trails we did find some red blazing that looked new and under the blaze someone had painted M.R. for Mushroom Rock so we followed red blazes for maybe a little over a mile and finally came upon the Awesome stacked boulders named Mushroom Rock. Well worth the minimal effort to reach this landmark. The park has some other blazed backwood trails with a variety of distances but on your first visit you have to check out Mushroom Rock!

There are great trails around the park and trails to connect to Mushroom Rock and Edward's Point. Parking is plentiful and easy. Water fountains and bathrooms are available by the parking lot. It's quiet most of the time.
