The few times I have called for missed service they are beyond aggressive. Today, the service rep accused me of lying. All this passion over a missed trash can? Flat out horrible customer service and this behavior has to be condoned by the owner - because I know I am not the only one who feels abused.

The worth experience ever. Terrible for a prestigious County like Marin. Driver highly unprofessional, vulgar language, drive too fast and extremely dangerous for children.

Very questionable customer service - I’ve left this review on Yelp as well, in hopes their mgmt sees and makes necessary changes... We've been a customer for ~3 years and suddenly our service stopped - while we continued to pay. No phone, email, or letter notice of why. When called customer service, the lady was rude and instant to blame us for not properly placing the trash bins, she then hung up on me when I told her it was wrong for them to keep charging us though they had stopped servicing us with no notice. In the future, clearer communication would be appreciated BEFORE stopping service, especially if you keep charging us.

So disappointed for repeated failure to complete a service we pay quite a bit extra for. After many phone calls over several occasions and promises of getting it right the next time, not any better. Folks with bad backs could use a reliable service that removes and returns garbage a recycling up a driveway, but it's not worth the tremendous aggravation and I have to bring the can up the driveway myself AND pay for it. Not worth one star.

Yes, we do not pick up on Christmas and New Year's Day, so those Wednesday routes will be picked up on Thursday, etc., with the Friday routes being picked up on Saturday.

Can a few representatives from a Senior Residency come and tour your facility?

Hi Ruth, You are probably thinking of Marin Sanitary, which is also in San Rafael, because they operate the recycling center where we deliver our recyclables collected from our curbside residents. They are happy to arrange group visits (at least they were pre-Covid--they may have temporarily suspended tours). Please give them a call. Mill Valley Refuse doesn't have a "facility." We just have an office, mechanics shop and yard where we park our trucks.

Dey did not pick up our recycling today.

Sorry about that. When I typed your last name into our customer base I got a negative response, so I'm unable to find your address. Please call our office (415-457-9760) to report this and we'll send the driver back.

We would like to alternate with ONE can. Use the new issue but on alternate weeks it will have paper and other week bottles. Does that work?

Mimi Clarke | Aug 24, 2020
Mill Valley Refuse Service | Aug 24, 2020

Using one cart is fine as long as it has the right material for that week's pickup. However, since the new cart is labeled for paper only, we would prefer you use your old cart and let us remove the new one so that we can put it to use at an apartment or commercial business that needs an extra one. Just call our office to have one removed. Thanks!

Can I set up my Visa credit card with you my monthly service fees? If so, how do I do that. Thanks!

Sorry, you can set up Auto-Pay from a bank account to pay for regular service, but we do not accept credit cards. The reason we don't accept credit cards gets a little complicated, but here it is in a nutshell. Our rates are voted on annually by our governing jurisdictions. The rates we request are based on a permitted markup on projected expenses. The problem with credit cards is that they, of course, charge processing fees to handle payments, and those fees would cause a shortfall in revenues. So those fees are essentially an added expense to services, and to recover that expense would require slightly higher rates. Avoiding credit card fees by not accepting credit card payments for regular service is one expense within our power to control in our efforts to minimize rate increases.

do the trash containers handles face the street or the other way around

john polhemus | Aug 25, 2019
Mill Valley Refuse Service | Aug 25, 2019

We prefer that they face the street because our drivers all have to get out of the truck to grab the handles and wheel the cart to the back of the truck to hook it up and dump it. This is called a "semi-automated" system. A service provider using a "fully automated" system require the handles to face the other way because in that system the driver never leaves the truck. Instead, a mechanical arm reaches out to grab, lift and dump the cart.

Do you do large item pick up or multi item pick up for when I am clearing out a basement?

Jean F | Aug 25, 2019
Mill Valley Refuse Service | Aug 25, 2019

Yes we do. Call our office to schedule a free estimate. However, we do not haul stuff out from basements or backyards. We only pick up from the street, so you'd have to show us what you would be putting out. Please note that some of the material you have could qualify for a FREE pickup. Customers in our service areas can get three cubic yards of stuff picked up for free 2-4 times a year depending on where you live. The only limit is that this free service is for smaller items, not large ones like big pieces of furniture. Our estimator would determine what can and can't be taken for free.

Are the pick up days Tuesday the 25th and Tuesday January 1???, usual or are they changed?

Christmas and New Year's Day (both on a Wednesday this year) are the only two holidays of the year we do not pick up. Service days are delayed one day each of those two weeks, so Wednesday routes will be serviced on Thursday, etc., with the Friday routes being picked up on Saturday.

Coffee cups have a plasticized liner and cannot be composted OR recycled. They should all go in the trash.
