This is the nicest rest area/welcome center that I have ever been to! It sits on a bluff overlooking the river and has a beautiful view of the surrounding area. It is far enough from the freeway that it is very quiet. There is lots of parking. The bathrooms are very clean and the welcome center is very organized and well stocked with maps and other tourist information. We spent the night in our vehicle and felt very safe. The truck parking is at the back of the property and is far enough away that you cannot hear them.

Not actually a rest area, more like a quick break area. You're only allowed to park 4 hours. Great job encouraging tired people to continue driving at a risk to everyone on the road.

One of the most important locations on this planet, and completely open to the public. A Handicap accessible dimensional bisect open to all that can pass through a 15cmx18.5cm wormhole that opens for 47 seconds every Friday around 2:15 pm. Clean bathrooms and a nice view while you wait. But beware of pressure changes, poisonous gases, and(it goes without saying) gravity shifts that would make the Poseidon adventure seem like a bounce house. Plan your trip accordingly.

This place has probably the best view of Duluth. The balcony of the information center is where you can spend some time enjoying the scenic view of Duluth and lake superior. I will definitely stop here next time before entering Duluth.

MN rest areas are restricted to a 4 hour parking limit unless otherwise posted. If you're commercial then that limit is 10 hours. Thompson Hill is designated as a "rest area".
