The references to "god" are disturbing for this long-time atheist. Can one participate in AA meetings without the god stuff?

Lola Glenn | Aug 25, 2019

Yes. I only stayed because I heard an atheist speaker in West LA. There are secular meetings and secular recovery does exist. I hope you find the fellowship you seek.

How can I get a sponsor

Talib Black | Aug 25, 2019
William Maestas | Aug 25, 2019

AA sponsors are every where. The best way to find one is to go to an AA meeting. These meetings are everywhere. If you do go to a meeting, someone is likely to greet you. Others may join. These folks are not trying to induce you to do anything. They simply are welcoming you, and want you to know whether they can be of any assistance to you. They do try to see to it that you are comfortable. They know from their own experience how nerve racking any first time experience can be. So sit down, attend to the meeting, that is pay attention, and keep an open mind. Little by little your mind will open to the simple, logical approach to alcohol abstience AA proposes. You will see the need for a sponsor to guide you through the 12 steps of AA. Remember AA does not promote itself, it does seek to attract through its work and example. So, look for a sponsor who has already worked the steps of AA, and is someone you feel can work with you. All this means go to meetings.
