If I invoiced the city for the amount of time we wasted queuing I'm quite sure they would be sending us the checks. No online business license renewal, are you for real? 6 hrs. to dropoff and pickup a permit, not even including plan review time?

Terrible customer service. Will spend inordinate amount of time helping an oblivious person fill a form and print copies of permits for them, but heaven forbid you forgot to check a box on a file request that is otherwise complete. To the back of the line with you, where you will stand and watch someone else get hand-held through the process. Sure, Chandra at the front desk looks nice enough, but beneath lies the cold heart of a bureaucrat.

The worst place in the world. Disconnection between different departments. Not professional staff and they like local companies and nepotism. If they don't know you it will be hell. The city major doesn't have qualification to be there if that works like now.The inspectors are rabbits. Always you need to caught them or you will get piece of paper about reschedule your inspection. They never call back. I don't recommend them for homeowners and contractors. Don't pay them because they don't respect you.

Rudest staff I have ever experienced. I work throughout the Bay Area and have submitted for building permits in many local cities, this department, hands down has the rudest, most aggressive staff that I have ever encountered. They're City Employees so you just have to bear it - but horrible experiences here.

You can do part of the work already permitted - this typically happen when people run out of money. Note, you will be required to pay a permit extension fee to keep it active for a limited period (can go up to a year). If you will not be able to complete your permit project due to financial constraints then it makes sense to submit a revision to your approved plans to exclude the items you can't execute. Going this route will help you obtain your FINAL sign-off. I hope this helps.
Yes with the approval of the building official...need to provide reason for another extension.
If it is a replacement door then no but if one has not been installed before then yes.
Yes the PSC does have some microfilm and also you can request to see if the City has hardcopy of the plans.
