Thank you for contacting the Restored Burlington Northern Depot & WWII Memorial Museum in Red Oak, Iowa. There is no model train layout in the museum, and no current plans to install one. There are numerous books on the history of trains in SW Iowa and the region. When you are in Red Oak, please visit our restored 1903 depot. Free admission. We are located adjacent to the BNSF mainline between Chicago and Omaha. http://depothill.net A great place to visit for a working model train layout, alot of model train equipment, etc, is in Malvern, Iowa - the JJCL Model Train Shop. https://www.jjclmodeltrainshop.com/

great it is a museum, but can you catch the train there? I am trying to find the train station closest to Red Oak for a friend who lives in Red Oak

AMTRAK does not stop in Red Oak. The two closest AMTRAK stations to Red Oak IA are Omaha and Creston. For riders who will be parking a vehicle at the station, for the duration of the train trip, I would suggest Creston, based upon personal experience - there is adequate free parking. The two stations are about the same distance from Red Oak.
