One of my favorite restaurants and such a charming place in general. The Sunday brunch is amazing and the sea shanty is something you really can’t find anywhere else. The historical atmosphere is just so cool, too. I’m excited to come back for my rehearsal dinner in October!

If you're into early American History, this place is a must visit. Stopped for lunch. Didn't have a reservation, so we ended up in the tap room, service was less than attentive. Limited menu for a Saturday afternoon as compared to what was on line. Had the fish and chips and clam strips. Was good, but a little pricey. Will probably return when the Inn ramp ups their menu.

My daughter and I made reservations at the Griswold Inn for a special evening together including a room, dinner and a night in your great tavern room. The morning of our Griswold trip my daughter phoned saying she wasn't feeling well. Not wanting to take any chances I felt it best to, unfortunately, cancel our get together. The person I spoke with could not have been better, he was very caring and understood our situation. I cannot tell you how refreshing it is to do business with a top shelf operation such as the Griswold Inn. Thank you, we look forward to many future visits. PS My husband and I have lived in Essex and Chester for over 25 years and have always enjoyed the "Gris" ! Nancy Vianney

Everything was delicious and decent portions. Fish and chips was fantastic, don't hesitate getting the side salad, the dressing they toss it in is really very good. We also tried the sausage appetizer and clam chowder, would get both again.

Griswold Greetings! Perhaps you have called by now - mysteriously, sometimes these questions don't always come through one of our "normal" channels. If you did call, you know the answer. If not - and for those out there that might be reading this - YES, we do have AC throughout. As many do not know, The Griswold Inn is comprised of the Main Inn - which houses our restaurants, Tap Room and several of our guest rooms - as well as 6 other historic buildings and a barn we are currently renovating. Almost all of our guest rooms enjoy central air (and heat). For the few that are "on the list" for a central system (though they have recently received a refresh), they do have ac units and are quite cool (and cozy in the winter!). All modesty aside - the place IS lovely. You may wish to try out one of our recently renovated suites - #5 is pictured on the home page of our website. They are quite spacious, comfortable - and cool! Hope to see you here next month!
Hi there. I see the local guide has answered... (Thank you Laurie Kraus!) Reservations are accepted for indoor dining: outdoors is first-come, first-served. (We have heat lamps!) :)
I think so.
The Ivoryton Playhouse is iles down the road: we have an overnight package with them right now - tickets are discounted. We have a similar package with Goodspeed Musicals, just a 15-minute scenic drive away!
We’re serve Monday through Saturday from noon to 2:30 pm. Our Tap Room offers Tavern Fare from 2:30 until 7:30 on those days. On Sunday we offer our famous Hunt Breakfast from 11-1 and then offer tavern fare again from 1:30 until 7:30 pm. 😊
You should contact the hotel for availability.
Hello Danielle - Sadly I have just discovered, as an owner, how to respond to these questions. Previously it was "not allowing" me to post my reply for some reason... In any case - thanks to the google community for responding on our behalf. We do have some rooms that have peaks of a water view...But as others have mentioned, Essex Harbor, the majestic Connecticut River and the marinas are mere steps away from our Front Door. When booking a room, please ask the Front Desk for a room with a "glimpse" if that's important to you!
