Great friendly folks. They took in our baby squirrel to give her a good home. Thanks So Much

Operation Wildlife took me a lot more seriously than the Missouri Conservation. The conservation agency said the “best thing” to do was let nature take its course, they didn’t even try to recommend a wildlife rehab center. The receptionist was very nice and had me send a picture of the quail the confirm it was a bobwhite. The drop off process is super easy and you can tell that they truly care about the animals. Definitely worth the hour and a half drive from where I live.

Very informative when I called to ask about a nest of baby birds in a client's wall. Didn't have to wait for a reply or call back. They also have been very helpful to the community by taking in orphaned and injured wildlife. Definitely donate or volunteer for them if you can!

We found a baby turtle in our neighborhood pool's filter system. Around the same time I found some bunnies that had been abandoned by their mother and were clearly in distress. I went straight to OWL. I'd never done anything like this before, but they took the animals right in. Sadly, one of the poor bunnies was in really bad shape and didn't make the car ride to OWL but the other bunny will be placed with others its size/age. And the turtle was clearly going to be in good hands. Now that I know of this resource to help animals in need, I will always recommend them and keep them in mind for any future rescues I come across! I was also able to use this rescue mission as a teaching opportunity/moment for my 4 year old daughter, who came along with me, so I was happy for that side of it as well!

Questions & Answers

I have a raccoon that comes regularly to my back yard to eat. Today, it is lethargic and seems to be bleeding from the mouth. Is there somewhere we can take him/her?

You can take him to the Operation Wildlife main facility on Guthrie Rd. Please call ahead to let them know and determine the best time for drop-off.

I have a baby raccoon around maybe 4mo old, someone I knew had him & his sister, unfortunately sister didn’t make it, but he did. Do you have space to take him in? He’s completely weaned & is eating wonderfully.

The director won't be checking messages here, but leave a message for them at the main facility and she can advise.

Where is your location near Shawnee Mission or Overland Park?

We no longer have a satellite location in Shawnee. We closed the receiving center December 2016 because we weren't getting enough donations to fund it. It was costing $ 36,000 annually.

Our cats brought in a bunny. It has a little skin off it’s back but otherwise ok. I think with this injury it will have a harder time surviving in the wild but what should we do? Tnx!

I have a male and a female sun conure my husband and I want to travel and can't take the birds with us. They are not very tame. Do you or do you know of anybody that takes in birds.

This is for wild birds you would need to look into a domestic bird rescue I believe it's called budgie bird rescue or something like that.

Do you guys rehab wild baby rabbits?

Yes they do.

I live in Lawrence. Can I bring an injured teenage wild bunny today? It seems his back leg is broken. Can answer on my FB page - its public, and I have real time alerts.

You will want to leave them a voicemail or a Facebook message. They are swamped over there and only one person manning the phone line, but several doing Facebook messages.

Do they make people pay for droping off animals??

April Watson | Aug 23, 2020
Rich Curtis | Aug 23, 2020

They will ask for a donation, as they get no federal or state funding whatsoever. But you are not required to pay any fees.
