For the distance, simplicity, attractiveness, no steep hills, places to stop or start, fairly quiet, things you might do along the way, safe, relatively straight, cement, clean. If above is appealing 5 stars. The negatives are many but usually not of much consequence. The rough is used by some serious cyclists traveling at high speed, children weaving from side to side, people walking 5 abreast, riders with high decibel boom boxes, sometimes ducks crossing streets and cement paths, visitors permitting dogs to deficate and not pick up. You can be walking all the way to the right and be startled by serious riders passing inches away from you, same situation but needlessly startling you with, on your left, skate boards with and without motors, scooters, other motorized traveling devices. All you need to know is there are better times to go and that sections are going to be congested. A lot of people walk with dogs and not keeping as far to the right as is possible.Hopefully you will bring water as there are only a limited number of drinking fountains and or restrooms. There is a spot just south of Thomas and the west side of the flood plain, green belt. It has limited parking but a number of Ramadas. There are many park parking spaces until you get to the south side of McKlintock. Then at Tempe Town Lake there is parking.

The Greenbelt Path is great for recreational cyclists who want both a scenic and safer ride, avoiding vehicular traffic. This path can take you from Tempe Town Lakes near ASU to Shea Blvd in Scottsdale. The path runs through and along parks and golf courses with underground tunnels and bridges at many intersections. The path can get congested in the McCormick Park area at times, as you will share the path with walkers and joggers, which you may want to consider.

Wow! The best bike path in Arizona. I didn’t want the ride to end so I’ll have to do it again next time Im in town!

Great paved trail that runs from Tempe town lake to North Scottsdale around Westworld. It avoids riding on main roads using bridges and underpasses to get by. It's beautiful and well maintained. The path runs through parks, golf courses, and several restaurants/bars to stop at along the way.
