I'm a homeowner in Alpine, and I thought I'd try this local shop for my CR-V which was throwing a VTEC code. I ended up spending a good chunk of change on the repairs. Prices seem a little high, but didn't appear to be unreasonable. The shop appears clean and nicely maintained. The actual technicians that I interacted with seemed really nice and knowledgeable and they were able to diagnose and fix the issue. I'm happy with the results. The reason I am not giving this shop 5 stars is because of the receptionists and the poor communication. The receptionists were rude and disrespectful toward me. I took pains to be polite, patient, and understanding, and I feel like the poor attitude and disrespect by the receptionists was unwarranted. Maybe it's just because they have poor manners or maybe they were having a bad day. Maybe it's because I don't drive a G-wagon and have Botox. I don't know what the issue is, but I was very turned off by my interactions with them. J and L held onto my car for almost a week, and they never called me to give me an update. I understand that it can take time to get parts and to get to my car, and that's fine. What I am not fine with is not getting ANY calls updating me on the status - especially when I'm spending a good chunk of change. They apparently couldn't be bothered. I was the one who had to call them for an update, and that was only after a full day past the time they said that they would be done. I try to be patient and understanding, but the lack of communication is just unacceptable. When I did call to get an update and ask questions, the receptionists was dismissive and acted like I was an imposition. Overall, what should have been a good experience was ruined by the poorly-mannered receptionists and the poor communication. I expected better. I've been to many mechanics, and I've never run into communication issues as bad as this. Disappointing. I'll be going elsewhere from now on.

After a couple bad experiences with another repair facility in the area, I decided to go to J&L Automotive. I can say that this was an excellent decision. The prices are reasonable and they provide excellent service. They provide great diagnostic services and even managed to correct the things that the other repair place did incorrectly. I've been back with all my cars and they have always provided the best service. I can't recommend them highly enough.

the guys over at this place are awesome. very honest. we've used them many times. I thought I needed new brakes at one point and he checked them for free and said I still had life in them and then I came back again thinking they were getting low and he checked them again and said I still had enough in them to keep going-great people.

Being a mechanic is difficult, so I understand the challenge of fixing mechanical issues right away. However, when a repair shop charges your wife an arm and a leg, and does nothing to fix the mechanical issue, that is when I start to worry about the honesty and integrity of a repair shop. This was our experience here. We paid a fortune and my car continued to have the same problem. When we contacted J and L, they just beat around the bush and failed to take responsibility.
