So I applied to adopt one of "Mary's Dogs" filled out the application. I recently lost my best friend 3 months ago who was a certified service dog for PTSD. Had him for 8 beautiful years. Brilliant, intuitive shepherd mix. He was 12. And he passed away from kidney failure. I have another dog, who is silly, cattle mix who is 6. Loves, loves dogs. Always wanting to play So I saw lots of cool mixes that maybe the right match. I just received an email from the rescue saying that at this time we are denying your application. First time ever been denied before by a dog rescue. I live in southern Maine. I was honest with them. Yes I have MS but I also had it when I foster puppies for several dog rescues here in Maine for 2 years in 2014-2016 With my service dog Gunner and he loved it. Never base the application on words. I hope this rescue realize that what comes around goes around.

They seem like nice people at this organization, but I’m confused about how they run things. They communicated in their email response that there was no flexibility in having our current dog(s) meet a potential new dog. They claim they are unable to do so because, “they can’t bring outside dogs to their ‘quarantine facility’”. If there are options to do so, it was not communicated to us, and we were disqualified because of it. There seems to be some unfortunate miscommunication in the organization. It initially confused me because they bring these adoptable dogs out of that facility to meet-and-greets at events that have other random guests dogs there? I wish I had known that prior to taking the time to fill out an application. A disclaimer would be nice. Their questionnaire takes about 10 min to fill out. Definitely a more stringent experience compared to other organizations.

My husband and I just adopted a puppy from Mary’s Dogs. We fell in love as soon as we saw him on PetFinder. The communication (via email) and process was incredibly easy and I would recommend adopting/rescuing from here. We are looking forward to our new family with Gus 😊

Our family adopted two amazing puppies from Mary's dogs a few years back and the experience was wonderful. They are now 8 and 5 years old now and we couldn't imagine our family without them. (The two in the middle) just like everything the price of dog adoption has gone up but their fast response and turn-around was great. We would have liked a little more hands on orientation with our new family members before we took them home like some basic play and obedience exercises but we managed on our own through trial and error. Overall a great experience.

You'll need to make an appointment to meet the dog in which you're interested. The staff is very friendly, helpful, caring and thorough and will help you easily get through the adoption interview and application process.
