Saint Agnes Church

Saint Agnes church is today March church with a large number of people attending church. They have a choir that should be professional singers and has an orchestra with a origin. I attended there mass during Christmas and it was outstanding.

We, who are from Indiana, visit SF regularly, and try to attend St Agnes when we do. This event I am going to share happened a few years ago. My daughter-in-law had her mother, who is from Peru, with us on this Sunday. Her husband had recently died, so she was very tearful and depressed. My Spanish is not very good, so I wasn’t very helpful. At St Agnes that Sunday there was a substitute priest for Fr Ray who was from Mexico. He spoke on mercy and compassion. I asked him after mass if he could talk with Alicia in Spanish . He said yes, and talked with her for half an hour, which put a smile on her face. My granddaughter, 7 yrs old at that time, had asked earlier what mercy meant. After this priest talked with Alicia, her other grandmother, she looked at me and said, “Is this what mercy means, grandma?”

Beautiful church, can’t believe it’s been there for 125 years already!

The church is beautifully maintained. It is welcoming and inclusive. The choir has amazing singers and the homilies are inspiring.
