This Alameda County food distribution center serves residents of Berkeley and Albany. Usuers must meet income requirements;they must be of low income, and the free food distributions are calculated according to number of people in a family. Participants can collect food once each month, and offerings vary in accordance with amount and kinds of food given to the program. Whole Foods,Trader Joe's,Target and Safeway regularly send food to the Food Pantry. Offerings usually include food with recently expired dates or dates that are about to expire. These cannot be sold in stores but are, nevertheless, perfectly suitable for eating. Canned goods usually are within the dates printed on the can. As a participant walks around,an aid tells the participant what items are available and how much or how many items the participant can have. Eggs, meat/chicken/fish are offered;dairy products and canned goodsare on the shelves. Bread is also offered. Sometimes sweets such as pie or cakes are also available. Once I found Canyon Bakehouse fossia at the Food Pantry;I have not found that anywhere else. For me those fossia were an important find because they were gluten free, and I need gluten-free bread. My favorite area of the Pantry is,however, the produce section where abundant greens are offered. I particularly like contributions from Thistle, a business that provides at-home meals. Although I have not ordered meals directly from Thistle, all the Thistle dishes that I have gotten from the Food Pantry have been delicious. In fact,I am salivating as I think about the contributions from Thistle and look forward to my visits to the Food Pantry to choose the preparations that Thistle sends. My experience at the Food Pantry has introduced me to some foods that I have tried and enjoyed, so I look for them as I shop in my neighborhood grocery stores. Others I am happy to have tried, but I will not be eating them again. I look forward to my monthly visit to the Food Pantry and wish I could go there more than just once in a month.

Worst pantry in the Bay Area, they distribute the food to persons like they’re a bunch of hungry pilgrims, not organized, people arguing and impatiently fighting, cutting in line, it’s as though the people that run it are in-their-own heads doubt it for only self righteous contrived religious reasons, and not actual service, I’ll never go there again, and haven’t in years. ../.
