How does it make sense for the library to be closed on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays for 3 years now. I’m not even talking about unreasonably short working ours all other days.

Stay away from this library. And DO NOT DONATE MONEY OR ANYTHING HERE IS WHY. This library runs like a private institution. With all the rules and policies. Of you like to visit libraries. THIS ONE IS NOT FOR YOU. Policies and rules #1. 60 minutes limit to charge your phone or devices. #2. Only one charge plug per table. YOU ARE NOT ALLOWED TO CHARGE MORE THAN ONE DEVICE. Just get In you got 60 minutes to charge dices then leave table. #3. There are about 7 tables to charge your phone. #4. They got more security police officers walking around than tables to charge your phone . Remember the Santa Monica public library is your library it was meant for your need and service. But who ever is charge of this library does run it like a private institution limiting your stay. Your visit your right to be in the library. #5 . They seem to have one goal not to let in the homeless people to charge your their phones or just limiting you. A big library building but limiting services to you as a tax payer. Dont donate to this library.

The library is one of my favorite places in Santa Monica. Unfortunately, the full library experience is not available due to the pandemic. When it's over, I highly recommend that you visit when you have time to get a snack and enjoy it in the garden. Check out the study rooms. Go to a free event at the Martin Luther King, Jr. auditorium, or learn something new in one of the multipurpose rooms. This is one of the nicest libraries that I have ever patronized. I spent a lot of time in libraries as a graduate school student and as a news reporter.

I visited the Santa Monica Public Library yesterday, and I was looking for a specific book. I looked it up on their website ahead of time so I was able to see that they had it available, and I was able to get the call/reference number. I tried quickly looking for it myself, but I had to go to the front desk to ask for help. One of the librarians found where the book was and actually had the book brought over to me. The staff members and the security guards there were very friendly.

It's because of the pandemic
How can I replace my misplaced library card?
Let's just say I have experience in that area. They are all good people, they don't gossip or make snippy comments. Sometimes a homeless person might yell or cause a disturbance, and in that case they are asked to leave. The one new policy is they have size limit for how big your bag is. Other libraries are doing the same. Also the library allows People's Concern to have an art program for the homeless upstairs and another time the had a day with resource tables. So definitely the staff tries to all patrons equally and with respect. It's a great library!
There's paid street parking and underground parking. First 30 minutes of underground parking is free.

If you have a library card, you can place a hold on the SMPL website, app, or at any of the libraries.
I'm not a librarian....call the library.
You can renew your library book on the SMPL website or app.
