Hiked Cook Mountain on a beautiful day, sunny and 60 degrees. Cook Mountain is a perfect day hike !! Decent incline with a little challenge, but not too steep. Very rewarding at the summit with amazing views on a clear day. We hiked with our 2 dogs and it was a little over 2.5 hours total. The summit offers amazing views of Lake George as well as views to Vermont and Lake Champlain. Highly recommend this hike, really enjoyable and would hike it again without hesitation.

This is a really rough trail right up the side of the mountain. Nice view when you make it to the top. The trail markers at the top should be marked more descriptively. We really didn't know which way to go. We went right, but I'm told that left is the better view.

Has a pretty nice view you can see the lake and other mountains afar from you! So the pictures i have down there are the start of the trail when I first hiked up the Cook Mountain Preserve.

Questions & Answers

Is this a good hike with a 4 year old?

Would not be a good hike with a 4 year old now. Snowy, icy and slippery. After an easy flat walk for .3 mile, it climbs 825 feet in a mile. Definitely need crampons and some poles, especially coming down. Great kid hike in warmer, non snowy weather.
