Wish we could keep this place secret, but its too nice and tranquil to keep in the bag. Besides hiking, biking, and birdwatching, we love this place in the winter when you can ice skate on the ponds and swamps - stunning!

Great paddling down the Parker River from the Thurlow Street bridge. There were barely any trees in the way because the river is largely among open marsh here. Lots of beaver activity, but I had to travel a long way down before a beaver dam got in the way. By that time, it was an appropriate point to turn around. Lots of red-winged blackbirds everywhere.

I have had the pleasure of hunting and running my dogs there for 40 years. It's time the state or the division of wildlife and fisheries to get in there and show that beautiful piece of property some love.

At least around the pond no, it's all wetland mostly but I can't speak for other parts of the wooded area away from the water.

Is this a reserve where I can take my kids for walks? Google lists it as a hunting reserve which concerns me

Is horseback riding allowed through the Crane Pond WMA? I was told that it was by some horse owners, and the trails are beautiful. Just want to make sure.

Yes it is. However, it is Wildlife management area. So, you should check to see if the current open season requires orange. I believe that's just deer season in the fall. There are a number of vernal pools that you may want to avoid because of mud and hidden obstacles. Also, quite a few neighbors walk their dogs off the leash there. It is a beautiful place for a ride & I would recommend it. Far less busy than Martin Burns or Maudslay. Happy trails 😊
