My first time doing this hike . On a scale from 1-5 . I rate as a 2 in technical ability . But be warned the day after you will feel it . So about the hike . Beautiful Pacific Ocean views, nice foliage and great spots for selfies and photos . Most of the hike there is zero cell service, which is nice . Allows you to be in the moment . Carry a hydro pack , shorts optional . As the cut through trail to the top of the falls is heavy with foliage. Heed extra care when navigating your way down the cliff face to the beach below . * Remember “ leave no trace behind” pack out what you packed in.

Start early for a good parking spot Bathroom located in front of the trail and end where campsite is Keep lot of water and food. Have lunch by the water fall is amazing. With shortcut to the falls is around 3 miles Short cut is dangerous, do not rely on stones for support because it does break easily. I took of my shoes for better grip, I did freak out seeing how the rocks can just come off any second. Be careful where you sit and eat because when the wind is heavy it blows the small pieces of rocks ( the same rocks that we may rely on when coming down the shirt cut) There is a reason why the website say they don't recommend the shortcut. If you don't have to then do not take the short cut. There is a long walk on the beach so be prepared..I should say an hour maybe one way Last thing the short cut is totally doable but it's just the sliding down to the beach that is totally crazy. Happy hiking.

This hike was amazing and worth the trip. The entrance looks like a whole in a bush (posted in the photos) I recommend taking the shortcut to alamere Falls. It will save you an additional 3miles. *Warning* you will have to scale down a side of a cliff to get to the beach. Wear good hiking shoes and comfortable clothing. Doable and worth it!!!

I love this hike! Have done it about 4 times and never disappoints. About 4 miles one way and takes around 1.5 hrs one way. The shortcut to the falls is outlined on the ground with an arrow of rocks, so pay close attention! Some climbing is required when coming off the trail and going to the falls.

There is a sign listed at the beginning of the trailhead that says no dogs.
You can hike in an extra two miles and still get there.
It's a long hike but I'd say the elevation gain is moderate. So kid friendly for a strong hiker! But do be careful on the 100 foot scramble to get down to the beach
It's doable, my husband and I did it with a two year old on a back carrier and a 6 mth old on a harness.

Check out this trail on AllTrails. https://www.alltrails.com/trail/us/california/alamere-falls-via-coast-trail-from-palomarin-trailhead?p=25424268. I'd recommend taking the shortcut to the falls and not going all the way down coastal trail and having to loop back in the beach. Shortcut is usually written in spray paint on the ground or marked some other way. Shortcut can be seen on this map Check out this trail on AllTrails. https://www.alltrails.com/trail/us/california/alamere-falls-via-olema-valley-bolema-lake-ranch-coast-trail it's at the last half mile, if you use all trails you can switch which map you have overlayed when you get close to the ocean
Not at the falls itself, but you could camp at the Wildcat campground close by.
I'm assuming you're starting in Bolinas? Overall the hike is pretty basic. You'll want to keep a couple things in mind. First, it's worth it. Second, getting down to the the beach, where the falls is visible, might be a challenge. It's right at the end of the hike, from the bluff down requires some three or four-foot "steps". https://www.hikingproject.com/trail/7001402/alamere-falls-trail
Camping at Wildcat, hotels: Bolinas, Stinson, Olema, Pt Reyes, none of these have a clear sightline to the falls.
