It's a confusing building .

My mother aged 92 was a resident in La Vida Real's Alzheimer's unit for 11 years before contacting Covid there the end of March and passing away early April. I was led to believe that her room was basically sealed because no one could go in or out, and I would be able to go through my mother's belongs once they could open. Last month that call came, I was told to come and check in and meet someone out back, which is the usual way you move someone in or out. But I was not allowed to enter the building. Surprisingly, they brought down almost all of my mother's belongings, and I was expected to go these boxes while standing in the alley in 90 degree heat. What I didn't want, they would donate. But they had already given away all of my mom's furniture! Including a wheelchair and walker! They simply said they didn't know what had happened to it! I also found out that they had put people from the other Alzheimer's unit into my Mom's room months before. What a terrible and offensive way to end my relationship with La Vida. I did email the director and he stated that the person who had been in charge of the Alzheimer's unit said this was my wish. But she left 2 months before so he's just not accepting any responsibility. Its definitely not the same caring place it was when my Mom moved in there, and I cannot recommend it. Oh and expect rent to go up every year, and each and every "extra" will cost you plenty! UPDATE: I do not know the person replying to this review, but there was NO "remedy the issue with your mother's belongings" and I resent you stating that lie here! 2nd UPDATE: Daniel is the new director. He called me personally and gave me his condolences for my Mom's passing. We had a very nice discussion and came to find out that was misinformed that my mothers furniture was found and returned. He was very apologetic and truly seemed interested in how I'd been mistreated, which I greatly appreciated. Hopefully under his guidance, La Vida will return to the loving, caring place it used to be.

When we were looking for a facility for my parents in the East County, we found La Vida Real. From meeting with Jenna and Bonnie they were very knowledgeable about the options for them. It was comforting to know that mom and dad could stay here together for the rest of their lives and not have to move apartments if one needs more care. All the care would be done in the same apartment. Cristi, the Assited Living Director, assessed them and let us know exactly what their care would be. I was also very impressed by the length of employment of the staff and how many have been there since the beginning. So happy we made this choice.

Grandpa was pretty resilient about needing to move to an assisted living community, but once he saw La Vida Real he was ready to go! Place is nice with lots of rooms and options. Looking forward to visiting with my grandpa more and enjoying the community with him. I know he's excited about all they have to offer and events they put on.
