I was startled in finding a variety of green trees--tall ones and forests of them, all surrounded by vines and other lush wild greenery. I am so thankful the preserve is locked in order to protect. This location has a wooden gate opens at 8 am. I was totally disappointed in seeing people swimming--not only mothers encouraging small children and also their infant dipping in the stream. Being a Guest to nature doesn't mean the same to everyone. I spoke to a few horse women who routinely enjoy early mornings. Then, in evening other equestrian ladies were washing down their horses, while fully respecting and appreciating the park, the preserve, common sense and the natural environment. I crossed paths with dog owners--not all dogs on leashes. Another example of strong sensible regulations ignored. These pet owners don't recognize or else don't care about mountain lion paw tracks or other wildlife residents who live here. This preserve is an exceptional place for North County. I was startled to discover such rare natural beauty.

Such a nice area for a nature walk. Love the shaded trails and the water nearby. No real hills to hike if you stick to the main trail so it's quite enjoyable. I've also done the trail on my mountain bike and that is also fun, I would just do that on a weekday. Weekends can be busy!

Great place to horseback ride. Well maintained trails and marked water crossings. Truly beautiful and unique. You will encounter lots of hikers and dogs, so be on alert.

Found this place on Google map and decided to check it out before school started. It's a nice little place to bring family for a short hike. We came on a week day after reading it's busy during weekends. Lots of horse trailers when w e arrived. The trails were sandy, good for the horses, but a bit hard to walk for humans. Lots of riders on the trail, where there are horses, there are lots of... horse droppings...😅 We had to walk thru couple streams so maybe a pair of water socks will be great (we wore regular sneakers). No swimming allowed so just wading in shallow stream to cook off. Overall a nice place to visit.

Well....there are some swimming type holes on the Santa Margarita but I only advise to swim in those holes in late spring to early summer. When the water starts to warm significantly in late summer you can risk bacterial infection. It is true for all water holes everywhere. Just use your best judgement.
Technically I don't think your allowed in the water. Reality everyone parties there in the summer and we even go tubing when there's enough water. If you walk out to an area that's not too obvious I'm sure you'd be fine, lots of nooks on the beach shores
Likely no to be safe. Website says non-motorized vehicles allowed and that mountain biking is allowed. E-bikes may be allowed, but likely only if petal assist and not fully electric.
Not anymore, it closes at 6. A bunch of kids caught it on fire a while back and ruined it for us.
We were just there and yes there's plenty of beautiful water. Not for full swimming that I saw but still you can wade and cool down :)
The parking lot was just refinished this year with concrete. There is normally enough space for everybody
Yes. Except during the rainy season where in some areas the water will deepenand the current strengthens
There is no place on site to pay for a trail ride. Look into nearby horse corrals. Best of luck.
yes they are allowed !!!
