Paid for a wok at the beginning of April, as well as some other tools. After a month I reached out to see if I could get an update. They mentioned they were out of materials for the wok i ordered, asked if I would be okay with a different wok model (different handle). I agreed this would be an acceptable solution. It's now July, and after several attempts to get an update on my order, I have nothing. They took my money and ran, it seems. I'm sure the store itself is lovely. Don't bother ordering online.

**Reviewing the in-store experience only** I see a lot of people complaining on here about the online delivery experience and so I decided to just make the trek in person and not chance a delayed shipment. The store had a good amount of options for woks on hand as well as cooking supplies. The lady at the front was very friendly and offered me her recommendations. I liked that the place felt very authentic and prices were very reasonable. Overall very happy with my purchase.

Avoid this business. I tried to order a wok and wok lid on wokshop.com, the website of this San Francisco specialty store, but ran into a problem – the website wouldn't accept any credit cards. With the benefit of hindsight, I wish I'd taken notice of the disclaimer at the bottom of their home page: "Check out different wok sites if you experience glitches.” I was however able to place the order over the phone but the receipt, promised via email, didn’t arrive. I didn’t think too much about that as my order, a gift to be delivered in Los Angeles, was delivered a few days later. On opening the package, my son, the recipient, discovered I'd ordered a 12-inch wok with matching domed lid rather than the 14-inch versions I’d meant to buy. I called the shop and explained that I needed to return my purchases. I couldn’t provide an order number when asked as I'd never been sent a receipt. This fact appeared not to bother the person I was talking to – evidently the same person who had taken my phone order the previous week. I asked if she could provide me with a shipping label. She refused and told me to take the package to the post office. I offered to pay for the shipping, explaining that it would be more convenient for me if she were to send me one and easy enough for her as I figured they generate shipping labels all the time – they operate, after all, an e-commerce website. When she again refused, I said she wasn’t helping her business and told her I would not shop there again. I hung up when she asked angrily and rhetorically whether I was “too privileged to use the post office.” There’s no shortage of online and brick-and-mortar Asian specialty stores – The Wok Shop, from which I’ve bought before and which I've recommended to friends, apparently flunked Customer Service and Public Relations 101. They will never get any business from me again. And as it turned out, my son decided to keep the smaller wok after all..

Questions & Answers

Do NOT order to have anything shipped to you...they evidently should not have a website, since they're not set up to mail any products. After almost three months of back and forth emails and phone calls, I've given up.

If it is cast iron or carbon steel, you should be able to remove the rust with steel wool and re-apply the oil coating, seasoning, with low heat on the stove top or, if there are no wood handles, bake the wok with an oil coating at low heat for 20 to thirty minutes.
