The place to go for fried chicken in Charlottesville! The Cummings family has carried on the legacy of the best Chicken in town. The burgers and hot grilled sandwiches are also amazing. Yum!

Wayside is a small restaurant specializing in "country cooking" with items such as fried chicken, burgers and fried fish. They have a plethora of sides to compliment any of their main dishes. I ordered the fried fish at my last visit and a friend ordered the fried chicken breast. We both ordered collards, mac and cheese and cole slaw as the sides. I was expecting a fresh fish portion but instead received two pieces of what can only be called "fish sticks". It looked like something I could have gotten from the frozen food section of my grocery store. The tartar sauce was homemade however and very tasty as was the cocktail sauce - both come with the dinner. The collards were delicious and seasoned just right - mac and cheese and cole slaw were also very well made. My friend's fried chicken was cooked to perfection. The staff were pleasant enough although obviously impatient when taking orders - even though we were the only ones in the restaurant at the time. The sides alone were good enough that I'll actually go back just to order those alone. The experience was ok enough to give a second try when we want a quick dinner to take home.

I got the 12 piece chicken . The chicken was very good and hot. The collard greens were seasoned good. Green beans were a little off tasting they were sweet so didn’t care too much for them. Potato salad was good almost a little bland , but tasted store brought.

Superb chicken. Fresh and crispy light batter. Got 8 pieces, green beans and potato and gravy. Efficient friendly staff. Clean dining room. Easy to park and order. Great value
