Our condo association needed to replace our roof and a 60-ft gutter this summer. We reached out to five companies – GF Sprague responded to us within a matter of hours. We met with Mark Vaccaro, who was friendly, professional, and knowledgeable. He was also the only roof company rep we met with that actually grabbed a ladder to look at our roof and inspect our gutter (other companies quoted us sight-unseen or by reviewing our roof on Google Maps). We met Mark twice in person: once for the initial consult then again to review the project + price proposal. Many of the companies we reached out to were happy to email us quotes or just call us with a number. Some customers might prefer this, but our three-unit condo group appreciated sitting down with Mark to review the quote and ask questions ahead of time. They were not the cheapest quote we got, but we felt their team was the most responsive, transparent, and reliable. Our project manager Paul Elliot was very responsive and professional. He sat down with us in the days leading up to the installation to review the project and timeline. He answered all of our questions transparently. His team was on-time, respectful, and took care of clean up (fixing a broken screen and picking up nails/debris around the house. Highly recommend.

GF Sprague did a good job fixing a few areas of the roof that needed attention, repairing some rotted fascia boards and repointing the chimney. I was especially impressed with the time Darrell took on a particularly complicated corner/return piece of the gutter. He must have spent parts of 3 different days making sure it looked just like the existing corners. The only complaint I had was that our original project manager could have done a better job keeping us up to date on how things were progressing and sort of disappeared in the middle of the project. Matt took over and got us to the finish line though, so it all worked out fine.

I hired GF Sprague to repoint my chimney, and also repair the masonry and plaster around the foundation of our house, install a copper barrier to prevent mice entering the house, and make good the siding. They did a great job, did very clean work, and were very professional and friendly. I expected some damage to my plants, but they carefully worked around the plants and there was no damage. They also matched the replaced siding and the paint color to the existing siding, making the repair close to invisible. And they replaced a couple of bricks at no extra charge. Rafael, the crew manager, and the rest of the crew, worked hard and were always polite. Justin, the project manager, attended to the details, and Matt, the salesman gave us a very comprehensive estimate for the work to be done - no surprises.

GF Sprague did a fantastic job on my roof and skylight. They were on time, did high quality work, and were very respectful of me and my property. They also offered to come do a free follow up inspection the following year. They showed up on time, and let me know that everything looked great and no further work was needed. Would definitely recommend them.

Questions & Answers

How often should a roof be replaced?

Some homeowners make the mistake of thinking they need to replace their entire roof when all they really need is to get a few repairs on their existing one. A qualified and honest roofer can tell the difference and will let you know if indeed it’s time to install a new roof. In these cases, the old roof may have suffered irrecoverable damage and have dry or brittle membranes, curled or broken shingles, and discolored tiles. It’s best to get a new roofing system if any of these issues occur because it’ll save you from the hassle of trying to fix what essentially can no longer be repaired. Are copper gutters worth it?

There are many benefits of copper gutters. Copper gutters and downspouts won’t ever rust or corrode. Instead, they weather naturally to a tawny brown patina. With other gutters, joints (at inside & outside corners) are sealed with special sealants that sometimes need to be renewed to prevent leaks. However, the joints in copper gutters are soldered together just like copper plumbing connections so you never need to worry about leaks. Copper gutters and downspouts definitely make a statement about craftsmanship and quality. Instead of blending into the roof structure like seamless aluminum gutters, copper gutters stand out, showing off their supports and their lovely patina.
