Beautiful place for horseback riding or taking a short easy hike to an Elk viewing platform. The local town of Chama is a lovely small village with just the right amount of services.

20000 acres of wild land access. Hike, hunt, horseback, fish, cycle or just veg. Wonderful views. Note, one needs the proper permits to partake in some activities. Aerial closure during elk calving season (up to July 1st).

Questions & Answers

What is the distance from the parking area to the lake? What is the best hiking route to get to the lake?,

About 6 miles. Hiking main road will take about 2 hrs. Can hike ridge on the west for more scenery, will take longer. Contact local conservation officer for more info.
