Experienced the display of children's books art through time. Eric Carle, Curious George, Theodor Geisel (Dr Seuss). Excellent display, artwork and books. Bring the kids and enjoy.

The 2022 exhibit on New England illustrators of children's books is outstanding! At least 2 hours are needed to be able to see everything without rushing. Old favorites, like Make Way For Ducklings, are there to reread along with current books by modern authors. The descriptions are VERY interesting explaining the process of how artists submit illustrations to go with the stories. There is also a stage with standup characters so one, or more, can put on their own play about one of the books, and an area for children to make their own picture book, build a story, or just sit and read. All three large rooms are used. First Fridays are free admission days! All ages, toddlers through adulthood would definitely enjoy this exhibit!

Friendly staff, I thoroughly enjoyed the Gingerbread house competition hosted in this building and in the surrounding shops this year (2020).

The Portsmouth Athenaeum is more likely to be able to assist you with your research on this topic. We deal mostly with the three-dimensional objects, whereas the Athenaeum has the documents and records. Good luck with your search!
It's free, but closed until mid March I believe. When there is a special exhibit a $5 donation is suggested.
No cost, voluntary donation
