As a longtime member of Amistad, I have seen more than my fair share of the ups and downs for a little over two decades. The good parts were usually going there for lunch on a daily basis with friends and dance parties and some of the holiday gatherings. The best part is centered on friendship which is quite important. But on the downside, there were excessive amounts of drama happen almost daily. The salt and pepper shakers were constantly being snatched from the table I was sitting, which is not only a running gag against me, but also an ongoing problem---and who are they to label me as entitled. I'm sick of being the only one at the table without a salt and pepper shaker. Also, some of the meats were undercooked---coupled with too much fat and gristle, and too many bones being left onto most dishes, which is considered a health hazard. Also there were too many altercations and quite a few people that came to Amistad intoxicated and under the influence, and at one time, I was threatened to be used as a punching bag, and had my PTSD aggravated in the process. I just want to make one thing clear: Bullying will not be tolerated---and that includes hazing and multiple hate crimes.

It is a safe, air-conditioned, day shelter. The staff is friendly and you can always get help if you're having difficulty. Especially if your issues are emotional based.

Good resource for the poor. Laundry is 50 cents, lunch $2, weeds out dirtbags like at preble st. Good outings, beach, skating, etc

They aren't open on Saturdays, Sundays, or federal holidays. There are periodic exceptions in the winter when staff volunteers to go in on an extremely cold Saturday, but no showers or laundry is done then.
That i have no idea but i can find out get back to you on it
Arrive and ask the front desk when the next availability is. Be in the lobby at that time because it depends on how many other people can't wait for a shower. They'll fit you in when they can.
No, laundry doesn't cost anything. It used to be 50 cents, but now it's free.
Breakfast and lunch are free. Every day lunch has different options to choose from
