Dorris Ranch park is one of my other favorite areas to walk & explore. It has historic buildings, wood village, barn where classes for children are held. There's a paved trail for walkers & bicyclists which goes to Clearwater Park about 4 miles away. Also there are dirt trails, past the buildings & filbert (hazlenuts) orchards which wind along Willamette River, eventually meeting up with the paved trail. The paved trail parking lot is left just past the gate with bathrooms. Or you can park in the lot just beyond the gate. Pros: paved & dirt trails, multi-use, bathrooms, historic buildings & classes. Cons: paved trail is slightly uphill for few minutes if approaching from Clearwater side.

So nice to walk under the Filbert trees on a hot summer day or take the path along the river. I also enjoy riding my bike along the river

BEWARE: !!! I just saw a cougar near the tree line and then it ran into the wooded area. This is just up from the first parking lot on the left here at Dorris Ranch.. If you walk up towards the hill with the towers on it, where the power lines run across. It was in the grassy open area at first, when it saw my dog and I, it ran, stopped, turned looked at us again then went in the woods. PICS of location INCL...

Definitely Not, great natural area and Heritage Farm . There is a lot of other sites in Springfield that are better suited and open right next to current transit.
Not sure call them
I am pretty sure they have times for this but I have only been there for trail running races.
Hi John, thank you very much for asking. We ask that the public refrains from harvesting filberts from the trees or picking them up from the ground. We have 2-3 rounds of filbert harvest annually, and the proceeds go toward maintaining the park and supporting the Living History programs that occur there. That said, we encourage you to wander, take photos and enjoy the park!
I understand that a massive oak woodland restoration project is about to start this month, and that there may be heavy equipment involved and thus it might not be a good month for peaceful outdoor activities there. However I do not know the start date.
