The people allowed to manage this campground is a black eye on the entire national forest camping experience. 36.00 for a site with no electric! (41.00 with electric) that buys you a bear box and some accessible drinking water. They advertise showers but the showers were all turned off. 2.00 additional fee during holidays...because it's a holiday. Reservations only. If this is an example of what to look forward to as more of the national forest campgrounds become managed by third parties, then it becomes an example of greed. The national forest should be easily accessible and affordable to everyone. I was embarrassed to be here and didn't stay. I hope this ranger district gets it's act together and begins working for the people and puts an end to this type of selfishness.

Good: -beautiful scenery -easy river access - clear water, fun for kids -good location - nearby hiking (Avalanche Creek) and hot springs (about a mile north); towns of Redstone and Marble fun to explore -very clean vault toilets (special kind of compostable toilets that are smell-free) -showers (not available when we were there) and water pumps everywhere Not-so-good: -No shade at campsite - very hot in the afternoon -gravel campsites with no designated tent pads - difficult to stake -some highway 133 traffic noise -some campsites are shared; we were at 34 and 35 with our 2 families...great for us but wouldn’t be great to share with strangers

The camp hosts were sweet, helpful and informative about animal sightings. I love that this campground has bear lockers and showers (solar-powered). We arrived to find no vacant tent-camping sites so had to take an electric/RV site and were only charged for a non-electric, which was really sweet (and fair, since we didn't need to use the electric). The vault toilets were VERY clean! I think my only complaint, which really isn't significant to me, is that you have to put up your tent on gravel and stone. But we had no issues with that, really. The views are spectacular, and the proximity to towns like Glenwood Springs and Aspen was perfect for us, and yet much warmer at night than those towns (which is why we didn't camp within those towns). I definitely recommend this campground, and if we're in the area again, we'll go back for sure!

We really loved this Campground, even though the campsites are fairly close together. There are fire pits and picnic tables at every campsite, and after several restrooms there are in each loop there are also warm showers! You can imagine how excited we were about this after lots of hiking, fishing, and river adventures. The views around the campsite of the rocks are all so incredible. Note, however there are no cell phone services for most carriers in this area, and it is a 10-minute drive into town for stores.

Is there a place near by that you can target shoot

She's right. You might check local laws to be sure but for archery you should be good just sitting up in camp and firing towards a safe place, no one should care.
