I love this place! I use them quite frequently for machining on personal and customer engines. I've never had a problem with their work, customer service has always been up to par, and turn around time is usually pretty quick as well. I hear horror stories about machine shops that take months to do basic tasks and that has never been the case with Steve's. I'd highly recommend them to anyone.

I contacted this machine shop after being referred by a friend. I spoke to Russ in person about my goals with the car when I dropped my block off, and we were both on the same page about what I was going to do with the car. My original short block I dropped off ended up having a crack, so I sourced another good short block to have them machine. Fast forward a few weeks after getting parts ordered, coated, and everything assembled, I pick up the short block and head. The shop that does my tuning installs the motor and then the break in process begins. I did roughly the first oil change at around 500 miles, and saw metal on the magnetic drain plug. I contacted the shop that installed the motor and dropped the car off with them. They did multiple oil changes with the car idling between oil changes to see if they could get the metal shavings to clean up but they never did after 3-4 oil changes. I had them pull the long block and took it to another machine shop for a second opinion and what was found was horrifying. They had used so much gasket sealer when assembling my short block that it was in the oil ports and oil pick up. I contacted Russ after the other machine shop sent me pictures of what they had found and he said he could do nothing for me since I didn’t bring it to him. Stay far away from this shop and they clearly do not know what they’re doing. This is on a 4G63 from a Mitsubishi Evo IX with only 500-600 miles on the engine. Edit (6/29/2020): I keep uploading pictures but they keep getting taken down.

100% love the guys at Steve’s! I’ve been taking my 1970 beetle to them for over 15yrs and have never had one complaint. They are honest, kind, do a great job, and never out to take advantage. I wouldn’t dream of taking my car to anyone else!

I took engine block to Steve import machine shop a Honda d16y8. They did head work and replace valves and polished the crank since it was already cut .10. They did the work in timely manner and got me all the parts to assemble the engine. I began to assemble the engine I installed the bearings and put the crank in to do a dry run and torqued the the cradle down. As I torqued the bolts to half the value of 22ftlb the crank began to bind and not rotate. I found the crank to have marked the bearings I took it all back to the machine shop. They looked at it and said I had left the plastic on the bearings and causing to bind. They gave me back the block and crank already installed and torqued. I get the block back to our shop and I could not turn the crank. I could not believe that they would think it's okay to return short block back to customer with the crank binding like it was. I took the short block to another machine shop they said the crank had a lot of hi spots from bad polishing causing to to bind. The crank and he had to cut the crank to .20 over correct the error they made. I got the block from the second machine turned freely with no binding what so over. I will not send work to Steves again.

Questions & Answers

I have a pair of Chevy 2.02 heads with Hi-PO springs installed. I need to check the springs to see what the seated pressure is at installed height ( 1.70 or 1.750 ? ) Do you have a spring tension checking tool that can give me these numbers?
