I'd read online that this placed served a Cubano Sandwich, a real favorite when I lived in New York City. The restaurant is a food counter within a mini food court called The Cookhouse in a very cute retail development called Vail Headquarters. It's the site of an historic old ranch, with modern theming to match, surrounded by strip malls along Temecula Parkway. To cut to the chase, I didn't like my Cubano. The food was high quality, if very pricey and small but certainly large enough to satisfy. But they used heavily smoked and BBQ-rubbed pork which didn't marry well, I thought, with the traditional Cubano ingredients of swiss cheese, mustard and pickles. I don't mind "re-inventing" classic foods as long as the result is tasty. This was just bizarre and kind of unpleasant. Sorry. No seating indoors now for Covid 19 but plenty of picnic tables outdoors. And plenty of free parking adjacent.

Craving BBQ? Lots of melt-in-your mouth brisket? Fork tender smoked chicken? Budget friendly? The Smok'd Hog is highly recommended for their food, their earth friendly ware, and again, this can't be stressed enough -- their food. If you haven't tried them yet, you should have done so yesterday.

The best bbq in San Diego. Not very big menu, but everything they have is very delicious! My favorites are pulled pork and chicken, with side of coleslaw. But we've tried their sandwiches as well, and they are really, really good. It's a small place, they have about 4 tables and a counter on the side.

Quite literally the best bbq and gourmet sandwich shop in Uptown San Diego! You get a choice of a wide variety of gourmet, hearty sandwiches that are made with serious TLC. My favorite sides are their Cornbread and Mac-n-Cheese and my favorite sandwich is the Cubano!
