I bought mine at a Harris-Teeter supermarket in Virginia.

What is the purpose of the substance in dark green plastic film attached to your mesh bags holding pairs of small avocados? Are they to speed or retard ripening? I was very pleased with the ones I bought to make avocado and egg salad.

Hello there. The mesh bags are for convenience and value buying and there is a small amount of glue that helps keep the bag and label together. They neither slow down or speed up the ripening. They also should be recyclable, though check with your city to assure it is.
