I enjoy working with all animals. In my early years as a young girl living with my parents I was always bringing home a stray dog or cat. My father would be the one to take my new friend back. One time, a stray Doberman attached himself to me. While walking home from school, I was threatened by a young man who had a knife and this Doberman came and growled and threatened the man back and the man ran away. I have always had a close relationship with all animals. Around 10 years of age, my uncle helped buy a horse for me. This was the highlight of my teen years riding my horse along the beach from Playa Del Rey/ Marina Del Rey (before the marina was built) down to Redondo beach. I enjoyed many rides with other girls who kept their horse at the same stable. My horse was named “Socks” and I was riding her near the newly built marina when the first sail boat sailed out of the harbor. It caught Socks’ eye and she froze. No matter what I did, she would not move until that sail boat was out of sight! When we first brought Socks home, we soon learned she was pregnant. She had a half-Arabian foal which I named “Jackpot” (seemed appropriate since we did not know Socks was pregnant when we brought her home). I had a great time raising Jackpot who turned out to be a colt. I attended many horse shows at Redbarn (where Westfield Mall (originally Fox Hills Mall) now stands). One of my favorite classes was barrel raising as Socks was extremely good at it and we won many races. This is how I spent the majority of my high school years riding and training my horses. One thing that happened to me when I was 6 or 7 is I hit my head while starting to slide on a slip ‘n slide. I did not know it at the time, but that resulted in damaging a nerve to my left eye. So, all through school, I was always trying to put the letters and words together (they were blurred) and could not understand why others were able to read and comprehend what they read while I was still trying to ‘see’ the words. I met my husband, John in 1964 and we were married in May of 1969. Together, we established Summermist Standard Poodles & Bengal Cats, although the Poodles started earliest. John recognized that I needed a special eye doctor and had me go to our optometrist for testing. In 2010, I have had the benefit of my optometrist recognizing the issue and sending me to an ophthalmologist at Rady’s Children hospital, Dr.Colin Scher. As a result of Dr. Scher’s surgery I now have the ability to see words clearer. This is great, although having had the issue all through my school years, I was not able to develop the patience to sit and read; but I see my animals better now. So, today, after 48 years of breeding Arabian horses, 53 years of breeding Standard Poodles and over 22 years of breeding Bengal Cats, I have enjoyed the pleasure of meeting many animal lovers who have had the opportunity to have one of my carefully raised animals. The last Arabian Horse I bred was Estancia who now lives with Princess Olivia in Uruguay. I have bred, raised, trained and shown over 70 AKC champions and I have exhibited my Bengal Cats at TICA and CFA shows creating Supreme Grand Champions, Quad Grand Champions and Triple Grand Champions. Any Poodle or Bengal Cat placed as companions are raised with the Summermist method ensuring each dog or cat has the social upbringing to assimilate into any companion home and become part of the family. Our goal is always to produce loving companions that live long, healthy lives. Every client receives a complete Summermist Care and Feeding Package, Vaccination Schedule, Health & Genetic testing, health guarantee and vet check. Always call to learn of upcoming companions.

I LOVE Standard Poodles. There are breeders that do it right. John and Sheila Fowler have been at it diligently for more than 40 years and I have had the exquisite pleasure of owning 3 from their very careful breeding, education, socialization and training (of clients). These dogs have become the Mayor or Princess's of our neighborhoods because they are so very special. Two that have now passed lived to 14 and 16 respectively. Incredible athletes, super fun, smart in an almost scary way and lovable for many life times. Be ready for any standard poodle puppy to nip...they want you to play;)

Sorry, you have to ask a miniature Poodle breeder - we only breed Standard Poodles for 53 years. Typically, males are 24" at the shoulder and females are 22" at the shoulder +/- 1 inch. You can go to the San Diego Poodle Club site at https://www.sandiegopoodleclub.org/looking-for-a-poodle where they have a listing of breeders. Some of them breed miniature Poodles.
Since there are three varieties, Toy, Miniature and Standard, the price can depend on the variety. Each variety prices their own companion Poodles. Reputable breeders have established pedigrees based on decades of testing both health and DNA and that puts a premium on their offspring because they worked to avoid many of the health issues. But, each has their own pricing which you will have to pursue with the variety you wish to have. Thank You
