This past spring was the City of Cheyenne’s first experience ordering trees from Super Trees. We had heard good things from several communities/organizations in Colorado who had planted Super Trees and therefore wanted to try them for ourselves. We, like so many other municipalities have been trying to find sources for trees with superior root systems that do not have circling roots and/or excess soil over the root flare. The trees were delivered in mid-May to reduce the likelihood of exposing newly planted trees to a spring snowstorm, however despite our best intentions, a week after planting over 100 Super Trees the City of Cheyenne was hit by a snowstorm that dumped over 14 inches of snow over a two-day period with temperatures dipping into the 20s. As a result, most of the Super Trees had significant leaf damage due to snow loading and freezing temperatures. Many trees lost all their leaves. We were very concerned that many of these trees would die, however to date we have not lost a single tree. Due to the amount of stored energy the Super Trees possessed, all re-leafed and now over two months after the storm, all are doing well. I don’t usually find the time to write a testimonial about a product or service that we use but in this case, I felt compelled to share our story because I have never observed a group of trees to be so resilient after a major storm event. Typically, we would expect to lose a quarter to half of newly planted trees that are completely defoliated and experience moderate to heavy limb breakage but in the case of these Super Trees, they not only survived but are now thriving. Thanks for providing such an excellent product and we hope to continue to work with you in providing trees for the City of Cheyenne, WY. Mark Ellison City Forester Cheyenne Urban Forestry

These guys are great!! They have an excellent selection and they know their trees well! I've planted well over 50 trees in my life so I know about trees and people who sell trees. These are my go-to guys now!

Questions & Answers

Our Zelkova tree was severely damaged in the ice storm earlier this year. Broke two of the major branches out of the tree, and the other branches are drooping leaving a large open gap in the top of the tree. Is there anything we can do with it?

Would it be possible to send us a picture? Drooping branches should be cut back to remove the excess weight. If there is still a central leader then the open gap can be filled in over time with structural pruning. If the central leader broke out then we would need to see pictures to determine if another branch could be trained to fill that role.

We bought three of the Sargent Miss Tina crabapple trees from you a couple of years ago. They are healthy but haven't grown much at all. Is there a recommended fertilizer we can use to encourage them to grow? Thanks.

We recommend a 4-6 month slow release fertilizer like Harrells 14-14-14 NPK that can be bought here http://obcnw.com/apexbloomnurserysupreme.aspx
