First time to Steak & Shake.. & I must say th@ this is now my favorite fast food joint!! Not only was my Steak Burger cooked just right but the woman who waited on me had a 10 out of 10, Sweetest, "Happy Go Lucky" attitude!! Worst restaurant experience. No one in the dining area that smells terrible. Like rotten meat and old grease. We waited 30 minutes for our food before I asked what was going on with our order. The manager who rudely came out said “we are just getting ready to start it. You want it or not?” I told him I was on a schedule and didn’t have time to wait any longer.. his reply was “*uck it. I don’t care if you eat here or not.” He grabbed the receipt from my hand and stormed behind the counter and refunded my $50+ order. He pretty much threw the money at me and again stormed off. If I would have been rude and less inpatient I could understand the rudeness some.. I was quite polite until the manager that should not be managing anything became rude and cocky! He is great way to destroy a business. When you are the only customer and don’t see an employee anywhere and clearly can see your food hasn’t been started 30 minutes after ordering. I should have been rude. We will never return..

I went there to eat with my friends on Sunday 7/11 and was very disappointed. Despite there being multiple, huge banners outside the building stating "Dining room now open!" the inside seating was closed. Even their website and the door to the restaurant claimed they were open for sit down dining and listed the hours, but despite all that the doors were locked. Due to it being too hot to eat outside at their picnic tables we left and took our business else where. I understand if they are short staffed and can't open the inside dining, but at least taking down all the advertisements stating it is open. There wasn't even a sign on the door saying it was closed, it was just locked.

Food was really good. The service was quick; that is to say, I quickly served myself. There are no longer servers or people at the counter. You have to put in your own order at the kiosk, pour your own drinks, and pick up your food at the counter...and the kiosk has the audacity to ask how much tip you want to add? I hadn't remembered filling out an application or an interview process, but I guess I work at Steak 'n Shake now. Perhaps next time, I'll have to cook the food myself. Just like most budget food chains; dine-in patrons are no longer welcome. Take-out and drive through is probably fine. I personally have no intentions of coming back, its not as though they lowered there prices when they cut the staffing, just lowered their service.

Status Quo with everyone else!
Depending on how busy the restaurant is, it may take some time. It also happens if there's new people on the job or short staffing. Try to be patient, they are a very popular place. Please reconsider visiting again. This place has great food and the staff are always working hard.
They specialize in milkshakes, and all kinds!! The best!!
It'll fill you up, trust me. Especially if you get food too.
It's about 5-10 minutes from Malone University so that's not far at all.
