Really nice place. Totally out of the way little airport but also home of the Erickson aircraft museum. There are small private planes here, skydiving and some airshows. The real gem is the WWII warbird collection...almost all of which flies!!! They have multiple Ally aircraft....B17, B25, F4u Coursair, 2 German fighters, the plane from the beginning of Raiders of the Lost Ark...

I came to this airport in 2017 during the Total Solar Eclipse. Seemed like a great airport! I'm not going to judge it based on what it was like during the eclipse, because it was very much overcrowded. I appreciated that the airport was not such a long way from the town itself.

Depends on the runway but I'd try to stay about 3 miles from each side of the airport and 5+ miles from the Approach ends at a minimum.
No closest commercial flight would be Redmond Oregon. About 35 miles from Madras.
