So, we weren't supposed to eat here, but we're so glad we did. The clam fritters were AMAZING - a mix between a potato pancake and a crab cake I suppose. Homemade hashbrowns. Eggs cooked perfectly. I ordered sourdough toast but they were out. Lucky for us, the replacement was a fresh made lemon blueberry muffin with homemade Marionberry jam - so good. My wife's fish was really good too. Family run business with great service. When we we're leaving, one of the owners chased us down to offer us a loaf of sourdough which just came out of the oven. Who does that anymore??? Outside covered patio was dog friendly. RV parking available on nearby streets. Candy store within walking distance too.

Went to this restaurant today to get lunch and wish my experience had been better. It took about an 1 hour for us to get our food. Also, took about 20-30 minutes to get our drinks. Then never got asked if we wanted to get any refills. There were not that many people and staff to guest ratio wasn’t there bad. Food was not too bad, but service and wait time ruined everything for me. Staff seemed to not care and inattentive to the guests. Had to ask multiple times for things to eventually get it. We sat at the table and it only had 4 napkins, while there was 8 of us and never did they bring us more napkins. Many of the common sense things that you think they would take care of never happened. Definitely would not recommend this place and definitely not on my list of places to go to. Wasn’t just us that seemed to wait forever. Couple behind us we heard them make comments and the couple in front of us waited 15 mins for the waitress to bring them the card reader so they could pay, this is after she said she would be right back to bring the card reader. Apparently for card payments they needed to bring the card reader to the first vs them taking your card and swiping it for them.

I had the breakfast special which was bacon wrapped oysters with eggs, hash browns and toast. Everything tasted great and was well prepared but not what you would call a generous portion for $20. The sourdough toast was homemade and thick cut and yummy. I was there in-between breakfast and lunch rushes so it was quiet. I would return to try the lunch menu sometime. No complaints. Still looking for a 5* breakfast in Newport. +Update: 6 hours later, all of them in agony, I cannot recommend the oysters. 🤮

Y'all, the food here is so amazing. It's from scratch from family recipes and family owned! Tips: Go when you have a good 1-1.5hrs for dining. The food wait can be 30 min during a rush. Remember: from scratch. The bisque is amazing Everything is amazing Elena is the best server :) Thanks for a great meal before the aquarium!

Masks are mandatory & they have distancing protocols in place. You also wait outside until a table is ready. Very safe.
No, we don't, but if you call us on the day you plan to eat with us and ask for an available table, we will call you when one is available for your party and then hold the table for you for up to 20 minutes.
Fishtails Cafe has had the same owner since 2000 when it opened. The location is a little off the beaten path and has always been a problem. No real drive by traffic, but word of mouth and some judicious advertising has always kept it going for 19 years.
